I was wondering if anyone out there has raised there hourly rates in late 2005 to present. We are in the east coast and charge $110.00 per hour plus $5 fuel surcharge (just started this month).I know this topic was dicussed in 2003-2004,but with the high cost of fuel and tech. salary,I was wondering if any rates are going up and what everyone else is charging in 2006.

Thanks
DDB

We are keeping the same rate of $110.00
No fuel surcharge.
We do increase service contract rates for obsolete equipment at a set periodical basis though (I'm pretty sure that everyone does that though).

As a tech fixing analog copiers 10 years ago, i made 20 bucks an hour, and the dealer charged 75 bucks. Now i make 21 bucks, and they bill out at 140 hour, because of ny advanced knowledge and computer and network support. Its a good ratio, i make a buck and they make 65. yes fuel etc, but cpc programs are killing us. I wonder when the dealers are going to start killing cpc programs as it is a "copier" mentality. Clients buy HP printers and dont go on cpc programs so why with a copier....Just lookin for starting the debate for other dealers thoughts on "this crazy world that we live" Confused

Hey furnfuz, How much of that $65 has the goverment and other programs taken? Just a glimpse from the "other side"; employee health benefits costs up over 300% in the last five years; unemployment tax has doubled in the last 18 months even though we are at only 3% unemployment; telecommunications taxes (some of them are hidden) but they have gone from 32% of our phone bill to almost 50%; liability insurance is up over 20% - there are too many to list here but a business' expenses have been going up too.

As for cpc programs and "copier" mentality, HP has been pushing hard lately with their managed services programs, aka cpc. Pay a flat montly rate for printer, service, and supplies for xx pages per month, over the monthly allotment of pages and you pay by the page. Oki has come out with one too. If cpc was "soooo" bad, why would the likes of HP & Oki be jumping in now? BTW, we have over 95% of our customers on some form of cpc program and that includes printers and color - we do quite well thank you very much. What does it cost you when a non-cpc customer uses a generic toner that screws up the machine, or how much revenue do you loose when they buy their toner from a competitor? Every year we compare the few non-cpc customers to cpc customers and the "net" dollars are almost always better with the cpc. Of course if you don't weed out the abusive customers that call because they just put a pen mark on their platten and want you to clean it, you can get hurt, they are not hard to spot.

Here in Humboldt, CA. We charge by the pound(just kidding).
Our labor rate is only 90.00 hr but we also charge a trip fee that is based on a sliding scale, basically because we are very rural and can end up travelling over 100 miles for 1 call, we also have the highest gas prices in CA. right now 3.13 for regular is pretty good.

Beware of what you are becoming while on the road to what you want.
