I have a sales person that is saving all his proposals and sales info to a thumb drive and putting very limited info into our contact software. What are some policies that you out there have in place to combat this?

at the begining of the hire you have him or her sign a non compete contract which in the wording states that all information such as proposals/ client lists or ANY information obtained in regaurds to the copier industry are the property of your dealership and must stay with the dealership upon dismissal etc... it's more wordy in ours but you get the just

If you're paying them a base to get them started (or a draw or whatever) you are paying them to collect information for YOU. This serves two purposes: 1. The information they gather is to your benefit if they fail to use it for their own benefit. 2. It's proof that they are actually working for you - not just collecting a check from you while they are looking for another job. If they are resistant to providing information you've paid them to collect there's probably something wrong. We use CardScan - they just have to get business cards and they can Scan and OCR them into the database. Our policy is that after they are established and pulling their own weight, we don't really care how they do it - since they're paying themselves at that point. Relax? When?!

Scott, maybe you could email me your covenent not to compete? Ours just says basically not to sell under the table. and when you leave not to solicit our customer base. Thanks in advance. jmcnulty@rambusiness.com

Billy - be sure and check the laws in your states. Many states (including the one I'm in) are 'right to work' states. What this means is that a non-compete agreement only protects you from an employee starting their own business - not going to work for someone else. Relax? When?!

Billy I will get it to ya after the first it is part of our employees handbook. and Scotty it doesn't stop you from the right to work just stops them from going after any of the customers belonging to youur dealership and that is allowed in right to work states.
