Voyager gear noise & seizing drum cleaning units

When I first arrived the gear noise was continuous whenever the conveying motor runs. The black & cyan cleaning units were seized, the augers broken, and toner rocks in the cleaning unit. The cleaning unit couplers were jumping.

After lurking about I found a few posts regarding the drum drive couplers skipping. The bulletins told me that it was not the same issue, but maybe the fix might be the same. So I doubled up the coil springs inside the cleaning auger coupler, replaced two drum units, & cleaned up the toner flume.

Within a week, a gear noise came back. A different gear noise, and the real cause of the problem. You could hear it intermittently from the lower left corner of the machine. There were more magenta toner rocks at the mouth of the cleaning auger where it enters the waste container, and rocks inside the magenta waste bin. That's what gave it away. The waste drive on the magenta cartridge was very difficult to turn.

The bevel gear drive through the front of the hopper was skipping gear teeth. The stupid plastic C-clips that retain the bevel gears just cannot retain much lateral load. The simple fix is substituting (3) metal E-clips for the stupid plastic C-clips, and adding a few 0.25mm shims between the E-clip and the bevel gear (and removing the toner rocks).

Maybe this post will save someone (4) hours pulling the main drive unit, when it has nothing to do with the problem. =^..^=

Great find. I'll look into that because we have experienced the issue.

Sorry, no fancy camera phone for me. The work phone is the cheapest piece of sh** available.

I did take some notes though. I'll forward the notes to anyone interested.

The short version is: remove all the consumables, and remove everything off the back, then put everything back on. At the 2 1/2 hour mark I was starting to regret my impetuousness. =^..^=

Metro PCS. Hello, hello, hello. Unlimit yourself!

What a laugh. Up until a month ago there was no service for the last twenty miles to my home. They put up a tower right in my home town.
