| This machine has been bugging the crap out of me, an ongoing thing over the last 4 months. I'd change a primary unit, or just do a thorough cleaning and the image quality would clean right up (for a day or two). It's had two different used drum units, two primary charge units, and each time the image quality would clean up. I had the delusion that I was fixing something. I wasn't entirely wrong though. It was a primary charge issue (charge loss), just not what I was doing. There is a contact on the rear frame that connects with a contact on the rear of the drum unit. The contact on the rear frame was slightly flattened, and there was some obvious arcing. At first I wanted to remove the rear frame contact to examine it, then my common sense kicked in. I would have had to remove the laser, and possibly strip the back of the machine to gain access to the contact strip. I was able to re-shape the contact with dental picks, then clean off the corrosion with a diamond grit file. I hope it's a good long term fix, because it looks like a PITA to get the contact strip off. I hope this helps somebody. =^..^= |
