I have been thinking of making the transition from tech to sales. What is the typical salery and bonus scales in your company.

50% of the GP, meager 20K salary plus about $1,000 a month in expenses

What kind of quota's are you requiring?
How long before you cut a sales rep loose that's not making it?

We have been struggling with this for some time. After a couple of years and 3 reps @ 24K base at a good size loss we had to revise our program. (This may be more the reps than the program...)

We currently do a draw system. (We pay them a straight salary for the first four months + commisions if they have them).
Draws are based on Demo units placed at $10 per page per minute - IE KM-5050 would get a $500 draw. When sales are closed the draw is taken out of the commision:
45% GP on existing customers (established by other sales people)
75% GP on new customers with service agreements.
85% GP for color and printers with service agreements. (We want that area pushed.)

If they don't get service agreements it goes to 45%.
Monthly residual on service agreements of + or - 10% of gross (we set pricing guidelines - if they are more profitable the percentage goes up, less profitable down).

Relax? When?!

I have been in the business for 27 years and have been selling down the street. My monthly Quote is $15,000 in GP, and ownership takes a 20% pack from dealer pricing.

I also have a web site that helps all copier reps sell more solution and helps them sell for more profit, here is the link for the blog http://mfpsolutions.blogspot.com/link for web site http://p4photel.org
