Does anyone have any experience with the performance of the MT-710 Mailbox used on the CS-4050 Finisher. I just received a request from a client with this system (4050 & DF-710 Finisher ) , and they want a way to separate the various prints being sent to this machine from different departments. Apparently the print volume is heavy and papers are being shuffled around, etc..
Does the device work or is it a problem? Any other ideas.

Why not set up "Boxes" on the harddrive for all the different users. They can send print jobs to their individual "Box" then go to the copier and retrieve it. They can even put passwords on each different box for security. Nice thing about this, is that if you have multiple jobs you want to print, print the all to your box, then make one trip to the printer to call them out of the box and print them.

With a heavy usage machine, you're gonna have a conga line up to the machine to access all those boxes.(sry Eric!) the mailbox works well, they have been out for years on Ricohs.

Come On Every Body Let's Do The Conga
I loved that song. I agree, it depends on the environment the device is in, and you know around here Drew, that we would have a short Conga line, but in busier environments, it would wrap around the block a few times.

If the mailbox is similar to the ones on the Falcon I and II machines, they would only hold 100 prints for five different users. We had these on a few machines at some law firms and it always seem that the customer needed more trays or larger capacity. I tried setting two users to one tray but even that caused some problems. Another example where expectations don't meet reality.

We have used the physical mailboxes in several client sites and once they are there most users love them. you can make a mailbox an individuals or one for a department area. At least that way only similar users prints get mixed. If you count up the available outputs on a 4050 or 5050 with one of these units ( and with a separator tray installed) you can have 12 different output areas for users to have their work designated to. Much better than using the electronic mailboxes and having everyone have to queue up to get their jobs.

Also from a competition stand point only two vendors offer this option and for Ricoh (the other one) they only offer it on their production level machines which compete with the 820i and 620i so you end up with a real competitive advantage once users get used to the mailbox option. Like any device they have their quirks but they can be a great tool in the right environment.
