I recently set up one of these in a customer's office and installed the print driver set up with the KPDL language selected and the "allow data passthrough" box unchecked. Well one user actually sent a 30 page print job, PDF documents, to the device then timed it's output. I initially thought this was kinda anal, but the job ran at a speed of only 20 ppm. At first I thought he was just not timing it properly, ie. did he start timing from the time he pressed the "OK" to print button, but he actually started timing it when it started to feed the first page from the paper cassette. I didn't know what may cause this slow down at the copier, but as a test I changed the print driver language to PCL XL and reran the same job, to my surprise it processed the same print job at 30 ppm. Now the question is, why does the KPDL language process the same print job slower than the PCL XL?

Acrobat and Acrobat Reader with KPDL is just bad news lately. I suspect something other than a PDF printed would have a more equal printing speed.
I know that Acrobat and the Reader since version 6 have been optimized for PCL printing instead of PostScript printing like it used to be in version 5 and earlier. Have some fun and send the PDF with the PDF Direct Print utility and see how fast it goes. ================================================== Chris L's Hiking/Geocaching blog (new and improved!) yoyoartist.blogspot.com |

I have found the KX driver is just really slow overall. It's just meant for everyday office documents, nothing special. When you get the color machines, this becomes a real problem, especially when doing large file sizes. We have had really good luck with the generic ABOBE print driver http://www.adobe.com/support/d...ct=pdrv&platform=win , used with the Km PPD's. Its about 2X to 3X faster than anything KM has. If you have smart customer who doesn't mind the PS interface it work like a charm!

I noticed the speed difference between KPDL & PCL XL a while back.
Whenever I get comments on print speed I switch emulations, and it picks right up. I have been rarely forced to use KPDL, but in those cases it helps to change the default for collation. =^..^= =^..^= |
