We pick up the empty cartridges to satisfy the clients desire for recycling, etc.. I refuse to pay the freight to ship the empty cartridges back to Kyocera. Is there any demand for empty toner cartridges? Any suggestions? I have about 5 skids of various models.

Staples will give you $3.00 for each cartridge. I know, it sounds dumb to deal with Staples, but they do give $3.00 a piece for them.

If I read and understand the recycling proceedures outlined by Kyocera, they (Kyocera) will pay for the freight cost of shipping back the empty toner cartridges from an authorized Kyocera dealer, otherwise I agree with copykat, take them to Staples.

I have not read through the new 2010 policy Kyocera issued for recycling cartridges yet, but the prior policy specifically said dealers paid all shipping cost, must be bundled on pallets, sent via truck, yada yada yada. Staples will take any kind of toner or ink cartridge, as well as the HP and Canon style print cartridges that hold the drum and toner. That would include many Kyocera fax machine cartridges. Here's the way it works. Sign up for Staples Rewards card. Get one account each for as many different people as you can (reason why to come). Staples will give $3 per cartridge, but with a limit of 10 cartridges per calendar month per Rewards card to get the credit. Any cartridges brought in beyond that per month will be accepted but not credited. About 8-10 weeks after the end of the calendar month in which you turned in the cartridges, you will be issued a store credit certificate for the recycled cartridges. Certificates have expirations dates just over 2 months after date of issue. So basically you can earn $30 per month of store credit each and every month by bringing in 10 cartridges. You can save up for 2 months and have $60 worth of credit to spend, or if you time it right there is usually an 8-day overlap between the issuing of the 3rd month credit and the expiration of the 1st month credit and you can have $90 to spend at once. I've been doing this for a year, haven't paid for ink for my color inkjet printer at home in that time at all. By using the occasional store sales, 15% off coupons and such, I wound up with deals like a $99 office chair that I paid $20 for. If you have family with another address you can use, sign them up and start giving them recycled cartridges. More free stuff to go around that way. It even works for ordering from the online store. ================================================== Chris L's Hiking/Geocaching blog (new and improved!) yoyoartist.blogspot.com

According to the General Tech Bulletin 68 on the Kyocera Toner Container Recycling Program; "As a customer service, Dealers are encouraged to accept Toner Containers or Waste Containers from their customers and return them in bulk, by pallet with freight prepaid to the Kyocera Mita Recycle Center. Complete (TCR) Program details are available on the Kyocera Public Web site for the End-user." Now, does the "freight prepaid" portion mean that it is prepaid by the dealer or by Kyocera? We also deal with Muratec MFX devices, and they include a UPS return shipment form in each toner container so that the end user can return their used cartridges. Apparently it's cheaper for Kyocera to just get new containers made.

3 guesses and the first 2 don't count. "FREIGHT PREPAID" means you pay, they don't.

That's what I remember reading, was that we would pay the freight to ship back to Kyocera. That's not gonna happen. Copykat93 & Chris L -Thanks for the info on Staples, but I do not have a Staples in our town, thus freight charges with their program also. I kept thinking Kyocera would change their program, and pay the freight, but now I have skids that are causing a problem. Thanks for the advice.

Throw them all in your dumpster, add some unleaded fuel, stand back, toss in lit match. Zero freight charges.

Absolutely correct. Normal charges with shipping companies is the party receiving the freight pays the cost of shipping. Freight prepaid means the person sending it foots the bill. ================================================== Chris L's Hiking/Geocaching blog (new and improved!) yoyoartist.blogspot.com

We have a volunteer with a local charity that recycles cartridges and donates the money to the charity...he even goes to many of our larger customers and picks up direct. Solves the recycling thing for us, clients love it as they recycle and do a good thing for charity. There are companies that do this kind of stuff...I use another one for ink jet cartridges and laser cartridges and the money goes to my local Rotary Club.

I sell mine to staples for $3 dollars a peice, I hate to think about what happens to them once they are there. I hate the idea of these ending up with the pirate companies and have God knows what toner dumped into them and resold back to the customers. I am lucky that all of our customers have a maint agreement with toner included.

Ballpark, if you have pallets of the stuff, just do some googling around. I searched the terms "toner cartridge disposal" and came up with many links. Here's one of them from the top. http://www.tonerbuyer.com/ Sure it's toner pirates, but they at least will pay a bounty for your cartridges. ================================================== Chris L's Hiking/Geocaching blog (new and improved!) yoyoartist.blogspot.com

ChrisL: Thanks, I normally search for everything, but I never thought about searching for empty cartridges disposal. Now I'll see if they want Kyocera or Only H/P, Canon, etc.. I'll let everyone know once I find out the details.

Toner cartridge is a plastic canister filled with powder and installed in laser printers and copiers. When printing is enabled, the toner release some of the powder to melt and bind to the paper before going out of the printer. Inside the situation of exclusive black and white prints, all slots are filled cartridges with the printer black toner only. The powder inside the toner cartridge is composed of carbon and polymer to generate a much better adhesion of the particles to paper. ink cartridges
