I have the cert. have since '99. I paid about 200 to take classes and I think the tests were 150 each. There is a lot of self study material online, and available from Barnes & Noble etc. 900 seems a little steep to me.

I did the A+ and the Network+ through work, I went to a week long school and had to study for hours to get the certifications. Work ended up paying this because Kyocera gives you a price break on parts based on your technician certifications and training. It was a nice break from service calls, a guy needs this once in a while.

$900 is waaayyyy to expensive for study materials. I recommend the Mike Meyers study material. He does a great job in his study guides for both A+ and Net+. You should be able to find really reasonable prices. Just be sure you get the latest editions. There are two exams for A+ and one exam for Net+. Get your A+ first. Then turn around and don't waste time getting the Net+. Try to do it within a few months after the A+. There is a lot of information overlap from A+ to Net+. Do your best to dedicate about 30 hours and/or more to read all the material in the study guides. Then re-read the chapters that you struggled with. Good luck! Rumor has it that after this year, those folks that don't have these certifications, but want to get them after this year will need to "renew" the certs every 3 years. Those that get the certs within 2010 will be "grandfathered" in with a "lifelong" certification and will not be required to retest every 3 years. Bottom line.... GET IT NOW!!!

i found another test from testout for the certification, it is $495 has online video training, online labwork to do mock setup and fixing, has study tests that are supposedly like the A+ seems to be a full course not just a book to read. what what the cert. classes say if you dont get it this year you do have to do it every 3 years. i would also like to know what price reductions you might get for being certified? thanks for the input guys

I did my A+ in the late 90's and my PDI+ last year. I found the book from COMP/TIA had everything I needed for the PDI+ exam cost WAY less than $900!
