May be possible Dummie. It's really gonna depend on the cost of living in the geographical area. You might get that (or close to it) in let's say... New York. But then a 1 bedroom apartment can cost you around 42k per year there. So 100k a year lifestyle in New York, New York would be about the equivalent of around a 47k a year lifestyle in Spartanburg, South Carolina. I wouldn't say that 47k a year for this area for a top level technician would be unheard of... but it would be very difficult to achieve (especially in today's society). Check this website out. It will basically take the salary you think you're worth in your current location and give you an equivalent salary for your desired geographical location. So if you're making 50k in Tupelo Mississippi... you'll have an idea of how much you should ask for if you're interviewing for a job in Las Angeles, California. cityrating
Good luck Bro!

Dummie Cool1, I believe good copier techs nowdays, the ones that are able to work both sides of the RJ45 connection and know what they are doing, and can talk to onsite IT's in their language, troubleshoot within the OS, as well as nuts and bolts of the machine they are the ones are worth higher five to possibly six figures, depending on geography and relative salaries in the econmy of that geography. Dan pretty much covered this.

We are worth it and there are a lot of guys I know here on this site that are, who can work in both worlds.

I'm in a tier4 data center right now with 3 data halls(Tier IV: composed of multiple active power and cooling distribution paths, has redundant components, and is fault tolerant, providing 99.995% availability) the most sophisticated of the networking world. It's actually nothing like what you see on TV, in the adverts for the tech colleges, believe me. What I have done in the past is far more complex, because you have to cover a little bit of everything when troubleshooting a customers printing issues and you HAVE to know what you are talking about. Granted, you have to know what you are doing in a data center, but the tasks are very repetetive and border on mundane to boring. The difference is there is no room for error, no mistakes can be made. Unsure period.

You are worth six figures, as are a lot of guys here, the pencil pushers and presidents make the six figures, sales people too, in spurts.

I hope you can get that amount or at least close to it, you are one of those rare guys who take time to come here and help and spread the knowledge and get a good feeling from being helpful, to me that in itself is worth a Million$$$$$. Thumbs up

Cool2Air...good to hear from you again brother...im humble by your kind words is always deeply appreciated...as you know...dnet has been a great platform for all us and i extend my gratitute to dnet and all the members...you know we are in bad times now as many people will love to say, but i differ from that notion, yes we have problems but this business have proven time after time that is very strong...in others words everybody is making money except the hard working engineers like us... i can complaint about my situation but i learn 25 years ago that if u dont push, complaint, and fight for your earnings...you will never get anything in life...so to me this type of post comes natural...i rather let my future boss know...what resides on my mind now to avoid future conflict...you know, "your level of skill and knowledge"...yes just you...it is for them to exploid and also paid for that talent...remember great minds think alike...

DUMMIETEK..never sell your self low...aspire higher even in tough times... Cool1
