A large financial comp I worked for a while back that had a very large print environment where all printing was managed from servers, made the mandatory change to "default to duplex" to save paper and "the world".

I'm wondering if the huge push for everything "green" will force our "esteemed" (hard to say that without throwing up) politicians to push paperless print environments more and more. I know this has been talked about since we were all in kindegarten, but I kind of see this "green" push being pushed to the point of politicians getting "points" for somehow legislating the amount of paper we consume, and push companies to NAS and come up with other ways to archive and store documents.

I don't know, just a thought Wacko

I just had a large firm do that also, I told them yes you will save on paper consumption but you will also be increasing the amount of service calls on your machines. I just hope they do not go to the point of using recycled paper, dang the jams and the paper dust if they do.

Had an account wanting to duplex everything. I just grinned and said thats fine knowing that about 70% of their jobs are single page and I am doubling the clicks everytime they print. Smile

I was kind of wanting to see what you thought about whether this will become part of the "Green" agenda, not necessarily the duplex issue, but paper usage all around . Smile

From what I have seen coming from a primarily left of center county. It already has become a Green issue. I agree with Scotty. once revinue drops because they try to "SAVE" us they will tax it to recover. Just like there will be a definite increase in a fuel tax after pushing us all to better economy cars.

When will these idiots realize that they are taxing everyone out of employment. When everyone is on public assistance who will FUND the government tit? The rich? The 'rich' will create products and services no one can afford.

The rich will continue to do what they've been doing for the last year or two: hoard, hide and move their assets somewhere safe.

What's the incentive to invest when the IRS is going to be your new partner that soaks up all the profits without doing any of the work?

Might as well move the money somewhere else - invest in foreign markets and keep the money out of this country or just sit on it in an off-shore account and wait things out.

There's talk about going after off-shore accounts - that'll make sure the money goes away permanently.

What do you think would happen if we all went back to a "barter" system. I need eggs, you have the chicken and you need milk and I have the cow. How they gonna tax that?

Bartering (if the IRS is properly made aware of it - as they require) IS taxable income filed through form 1099-B (B is for 'Barter').

Don't you just love it?

Here's the deal:
You make money - they tax it.
You spend money - they tax it.
You trade out for stuff - they tax it.
You buy property like a car or house or boat - they tax it.
You own property like a car or house or boat - they tax it.
If you have a business they tax the property your business owns. (At least in my state - some states they may do this for your personal property too)
You die - they tax whatever you had left to make sure your kids get as little as possible.

Do YOU feel represented in these taxation decisions?

Tea is much more than just a drink....

Personally I think the "green" culture is the younger generation, trying to divert some guilt away from their techno exhorbitant lifestyle. Youtube is packed with them, trying to push the green agenda, now Obama has passed this Carbon footprint thing.

Years ago it was all about the rain forests begin chopped down, ahhhh, yesss, the good old days Wink

The carbon footprint thing is a bunch of baloney - basically companies can either comply with standards or buy or 'trade' carbon credits with other companies with 'smaller' than required carbon footprints.
I'm not sure exactly how the 'Carbon Credits' that Al Gore's company sells play into this - they are probably all part of the plan. (Al made a TON of money selling carbon credits after his Nobel Prize!!!!??? for being a Narrator and a Hypocritical Snake Oil salesman IMHO - while his own home used ridiculous power for a 'documentary' film was used as a massive marketing tool.

The truly sad thing is that in my area we have Coal fired power plants. The owners of it will opt to buy carbon credits and raise rates while doing nothing to improve their 'carbon footprint'. Somebody's gonna get really rich from this, and your average American working class folks will be expected to pay for it - along with tax increases and exemption reductions.

I loved the speech where B.O. was talking about how we need more jobs. Then he said we needed to go paperless on everything - not even thinking for a second about all the jobs that creates:
1. Paper Manufacturers
2. Paper Retailers
3. Printer and Copier Sales and Service and Supplies
4. Power Companies
(I know, we're supposed to use less power - but realistically if we stop using cars we stop selling cars and we stop building cars - sound familiar?)

If we could get past the Nuclear phobia....

i agree whole heartdly with scotty on the carbon tax issue. I'm 23 and i feel that if they would just take a hard look on what their taxing they would realise that in the grand scheme of things their turning this country into a wasteland for economy. in the long run there will be no home based businesses as they will all run overseas to get away from the exhorbant amount of taxes they have to pay just to keep the doors open on the business. same thing goes with ciggarattes, they want you to quit but then 45% or so of their tax ruvinue comes from smokers. Absolutly rediclous.

Here in Oregon it's the law that all public educational institutions must use recycled paper. Schools, with their multitudes of users who also are patently as stupid as a sack of hammers, have always been hell for Techs. Hell is alittle hotter in Oregon.

Been hearing a lot lately from the political parties here in NC (which is totally F'd up on both sides) about "green" jobs.

I'm just glad I'm getting to an age (49) where I get a kick out of the ridiculous stuff that they try to push down our throats.

A "green" job wtf is that? I've heard Osama say it over and over and now I'm hearing the locals touting it.

Well, isn't that nice - we've all had 'green' jobs for years!

After all, the products we maintain stay out of the landfill, and the products we refurbish are 'recycled'.

We increasingly add scanning capabilities to offices - allegedly reducing paperwork (sounds good anyway).

Network printing reduces the 'carbon footprint' of the individual's desktop.

The copier is already using power, so doing away with desktop printers should now be a 'green initiative' - how's that for a marketing angle?
Plus, the fact that they have to get up and walk to the copier to get all their prints is a 'health initiative'! (Don't tell 'em how much it will decrease their productivity - they'll just have to tighten their belts to save the planet!)
