I was on my way to my first service call that morning (a Mita DC-1205) and heard on the morning talk radio show I always used to listen to. They had a brief interruption to announce that one of the towers was on fire, but then continued on with normal broadcast. Shortly thereafter, they came on and announced that the second tower had been hit and was now on fire. (from that point on, that's all I heard on the radio and TV for weeks). I quickly called my Service Manager at the time and asked if we had a TV at the office where someone could maybe see what was going on early that morning. I was sure we were under attack, but didn't know by whom. Was this similar to the "unibomber" case? Was this another country? My whole body got tense and I felt this rush of anxiety come over me. Although was able to work throughout the day, everywhere I went that day, the customers were glued to televisions and radios in their offices. It was a sad, sad day. I got home to the wife that night and saw her crying as she couldn't leave the loops of video all over the TV. There I was able to see detail of people leaping from windows in the towers... Then the anger set in and I was cussing out all our enemies there in my living room (foreign and domestic). Although, I'm sure we all have our own political stances and issues with our government (flawed and corrupt as it is), let's not forget what this country was founded on and continues to pride itself on to this day. Our basic independence and freedoms found within the constitution. I get very frustrated with todays government (the government of the past 50-60 years or so), and I've accepted that the corruption will never be stamped out and seems to only get worse and worse, but I still have that basic "proud to be an American" spirit within me... especially when significant dates such as this Friday start coming up. God Bless America!!!! |

I was actually already at my first call on a Mita Dc-111C when the secretary in the office said very loudly "OH MY GOD" and she was teary eyed as I went to see what was wrong. There it was, on the TV, the first plane had hit & the Towers. I stood there in dis-belief as they showed the fire and all the people on the street looking up. Then a short while later there was another video being shown of them looking up at first Tower when this plane came outta no where and struck the 2nd Tower. I was floored, scarred and almost like a zombee not moving for several minutes. And like you said, that is all that was important for the next several weeks.
GOD BLESS AMERICA, & all the families that lost love ones during that very sad & unforgetable day in N.Y., PA & D.C. |

I was driving to work, listening to Howard Stern. Wasn't exactly the usual show that day.
But I'm trying, Ringo. I'm trying real hard... to be the Shepherd. |

Like any other Tuesday, I was doing my job.
Service department had all gathered by 8am central time, except 1. The last guy straggled in a few minutes late, and immediately started babbling something about the WTC being hit by an airplane and ran off into our conference room where the only TV in the building was. I at first was not overly distracted. I knew the story from WWII when a B-25 bomber rammed into the Empire State Building in heavy fog. That obviously did not cause any catastrophe back then. Well he came running back all excited and spit out that another plane rammed the other tower. Then it finally sunk in to me that these were intentional acts, and I watched the news coverage for a short while. However, there still was work to be done, and watching events on TV was not going to help any of the people in New York or Washington that day. It was not really difficult to keep up with events. TV's were on everywhere I visited to fix machines that day. I watched both tower collapses and kept up on the other news about the Pentagon, and also the crash in Pennsylvania, while getting my work done. On a side note, I had just purchased a new 2001 Jeep Wrangler 6 weeks prior to 9-11. I had to be the only schmuck in the USA paying interest on a new car loan from that time period. I still drive that Jeep though. ================================================== Chris L's Hiking/Geocaching blog (new and improved!) yoyoartist.blogspot.com |

At the time I was leaving the Department of Labor after working on a machine. Another tech stopped by and said he heard someone flew a plane into the Pentagon. I thought, "What a dumbass" Thinking it was a commuter plane.
Every Tuesday I had to go to my most important client during football season, The Jacksonville Jaguars and hold their hands while they made prep for the following game. When I walked in everyone was glued to TV's, people were crying. I saw what was going on. It seemed surreal, I felt numb, weird. I'll never forget that day, where I was and what I was doing. The unfortunate thing is a lot of people have forgotten. It sickens me to think that some are naive enough to believe out government plotted this. As the years go by more conspiracy theories and less focus and what it was, a terrorist attack perpetrated by people that hates us because we are free! GOD BLESS AMERICA and those that don't like those words can move or go to hell! Z No HOPE, just BROKE. Anyone else - 2012 |

Like most, I was on mmy way to a call on a KM-4230 with an exposure error problem. Customer had no TV or radio on and had no idea until I told them. Right before getting back to the shop is when the first tower fell. Everyone was listening to radios and monitoring the internet for any info. It was a somber day and not much work got done. No one wanted to go into the city to do service calls. I work in the Chicago area so you can imagine the hesitation with the Sears Tower (sorry, the Willis Tower) possibly being hit. I continue to pray for those souls, lost that day and continue to pray for those that think that this was no big deal and we deserved it. The shame is on you. Ditto to what 313ZD wrote "GOD BLESS AMERICA".

I find it funny that you ask this question because I think about it often. I was at a Law Firm working on a copier that is 90 miles away from my town. I do not go to this account often.
The Odd thing is that I was at the same account when the Oklahoma City bombing happened. |

I was listening to a new CD on the way to work, I lived in CA at the time, and I was wondering why there was a T.V. in the Service Dept. as I came in. My first call that day (because no one else would go) was at a recently closed (by Clinton) AFB that had been taken over by UPS and Fed Ex. Things were just a little spooky because there was word that there was still a possible stike that had not yet(and never did) happened in Cali. All through the day I talked with some very sad and hurt customers that for once did not seem concerned that the copier was jamming.

Dan what a great post so glad some still remember this day.
I was working as Service Mgr/Field Tech/Parts Dept guy/In shop tech/out of shop tech/internet fixer guy for a small cartridge recycling company here in Sanford. We all went next door to the used car dealer when one of the customers came in and said there was big a plane crash in New York. We stood there literally frozen in time, eyes peeled to the little tiny tv they had. That picture will always be there in my mind. Techboy, don't go there anymore K? thks. |

September 10th, 2001 - I was doing some shop cleanup and decided to disconnect the little TV we had, since nobody ever used it.
The next day, the office guy is asking me where it went and asking me to hook it back up. Initially we didn't know what was going on - just a plane hit one of the trade center buildings - then the second hit while we were watching. You know the rest of that story... At the time we were right next to a gas station. It was a sleepy little gas station - didn't do much business (it actually closed last year finally). It seems like it was the same day, but I can't remember for sure - there were lines from three different directions - people loading up on gas. I was glad to see they didn't do any price gouging - but many others did and were later fined pretty heavily by the state for it. Fortunately nobody I know was hurt or killed. My wife knows a guy that actually worked in one of the towers - he was home sick that day! Relax? When?! |

I was driving through British Columbia, Canada taking my daughter to her first year of college when we stopped at a McDonalds that had a tv. My wife was supposed to fly to meet us and had to take a ferry instead. We got 'er done.

You know reading over this again I am reminded of the way I felt everytime I had to gas up my car and hand my money to a guy that barely spoke english and smelled of curry. I was actually able to understand why the Watts riots happened, and how real racial hatred can spawn feelings that, if not reeled in, can escalate a bad though into a bad action in the blink of an eye.

Was working for Konica, someone rolled a tv out from the break room and said a plane just hit one of the trade center towers. We watched the other one hit the other tower, and to the final end for both. Everyone huddled together in a daze. The next day, I never saw so many cars with old glory waiving.

Being from Australia, it happened late in the night. I watched it all unfold in front of my eyes. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. The next day everyone in the business held a minutes silence for the victims.

I was in an elevator when my cell rang. My wife calling about the first plane. We were on the phone when the second one hit. I decided to swing by our apartment on the way to my next call. We watched the coverage for a few minutes.
When I arrived at my next call I did not have my tool bag. I had it left sitting in the parking space at my previous call. I arrived to pick it up and found it surrounded by yellow tape. The police officer and crowd were very relieved to have it claimed and opened. The 1st of 3 times my tool bag has been mistaken for a bomb. |

I was at Panasonic school right over the bridge on Route 3, school was closed around 10 o'clock fighter jets where flying back and forth people where walking on major highways to get home. The reaction of my instructor was surreal do to the fact that his pregnant wife was suppose to be in tower two for regional training thankfully she was late. The tension and anguish was rightfully high.
