Has anyone tried using an amazon Kindle to view service manuals?
They have a new model that is supposed to have free 3G service and if they work well for service manuals I'd consider getting them for my copier techs to carry.

Relax? When?!

Why Scotty?
You can get refurbed Asus netbook for the same price, and it will hold more info.
I have been looking at the "pad" craze going on, and I feel myself getting sucked into the fervor sometimes, then I manage to snap out when I read most of the specs.
I am still waiting for an Android based Pad, with the dual e-ink/ color OLED, or just a color E-ink when it finally has all the bugs worked out.
Color LCD's still suck too much power, and make your eyes bleed when reading too much on them.

Not sure about the Kindle, but my Nook is lousy for reading manuals. You can enlarge the font, but no such thing as zoom. When the font gets too big the PDF reflows and garbles.

My iPad is pretty good for reading manuals, but quite a bit more expensive.

I hate looking at blow ups on my Asus netbook. I was thinking the digital ink display would be easier to read and they're more portable, lighter and have a very long battery life.

Also I'm kind of expecting someone will hack a way to use the 3G for tethering.

Zoom button never killed anybody. I am a die hard netbook advocate.

I am with Drew, tablets are a farce. Who the hell would go from a laptop to a keyboard-less, USB-less, Flash-less, Microsoft-less, printer-less, mouse-less awkward, fancy piece of crap.

Touchpad is sooo overrated.

I've had a number of PDA's over the years, and the only consistent thing about them is that the touch pads don't last more than a year. I am a big fan of hard keys and a big laptop screen.

Anybody remember the micro-fiche? After 10 minutes of browsing, the eye fatigue was so bad I couldn't see anything small or large for an hour afterwards. =^..^=

Never mind the fiche, how about 300 LBS of manuals stacked in your trunk! I may seem a tad old school, but a well written manual and the ability to find the info in it are a lost art.
I miss a nice big fold out general circuit diagram.

I use an app on my iPhone that's called "GoodReader." You can wirelessly transfer PDF manuals to your device. Once the manuals are loaded, the app can utilize the indexing features of the PDF, search for keywords and use links within the document just like you can on your computer. It's a pretty handy way to store anything you need in a PDF format on your phone. There might even be a version available for Android.

I was in a Konica class about four years ago on the C500. I was the only one without a laptop so I had to use books all week. When it came time to take the test I blew though it in about a half an hour while everyone else was searching their pdf's. And yes I passed.
