I do like the extra information in the service manual. They finally put send error codes in there, plus the Disassembly section seems to have more info on random parts like fans. It feels like a faster replacement for the budget A3 1650/2050/2550/221/181 copiers since it has a tiny interface and a 300k maintenance cycle.
I'm not sure why they went with putting all the guts on the right side like a Ricoh or a 1515F. I guess it won't have to flip papers to send to the finisher, but now it needs a bridge. And I won't be able to use 10-year-old falcon feed units.
The touchscreen interface looks passable; not bad considering the small size. It can't be any worse than navigating scan menus on a 2550. Unfortunately there are way too many scrollbars when there's plenty of white space around, and I doubt we'll see any fancy smartphone-like scrolling.
New jam codes don't sound like fun. Hopefully I won't get them mixed up with C-codes or Send errors now that they are all 4 digits.

Also no three year bumper to bumper warranty. Back to the one year warranty. MA kits are still three. But at the Kickoff meeting when they launched the Taskalfa series they said all future Taskalfa product will be three year bumper to bumper. More fun next month when the color version comes out.
These look like KM first phase of phasing out dealers.
They're starting to make maintenance user friendly which means they're positioning themselves to deliver the products directly to the customers.
I feel this is a bad move on their part - Oki and Samsung have done this to the point that we only maintain our dealer status so that people will call us about their stuff and we immediately show them why they should buy Kyocera stuff instead.
Once KM decides to start direct selling more machines (expanding the EcoPro baloney), supplies and maintenance kits we'll all be hosed, yet they'll still want us to take care of their customers while we're starving.
It's the same scenario that went down with consumer electronics - crush the service shops out of business by producing cheaper, crappier and more available products that you'd be crazy to have someone service - yet try to string them along with warranty service that frequently didn't pay off for the shop due to increasingly unreasonable and complex claim procedures (sound familiar?).
Diversify your skills my friends. Change is coming.
Ah yes, I remember that pang of paranoia 20 years ago when xerox came out with a customer replaceable pcu for their small machines, and 5 years before that when we were on the verge of the "paperless office"! Still carrying a tool bag.
I think it's important to note that low end, low volume machines are the operating foundation of many shops. As these machines become impossible to sell profitable maintenance agreements (btw - a full size console machine like these further encroaches on that market) it will become increasingly more difficult to maintain economic stability.
I've just been reviewing out overall copier maintenance profitability - over the last two years our parts and supplies costs have doubled while our gross revenues have only increased by about 10%.
Much of this additional cost I attribute to Voyager machines - which KM threw us to the wolves on.
My Voyagers are running much better than the current saturn colors, Did you check the profitability on the current colors ?

Haven't used anything but toner on the new machines. I know we've replaced a lot of expensive kits on Voyagers - many that have low color mileage but 300K b/w. At 4 times the cost for the kit that really hurts.
OK so I guess I'm way behind, what new machines besides the 255/305 are out? I mean the totally new ones that have rated speed output thru finisher or new color. I thought these not out for few more months? Least that what I thought our tech rep said. Sorry if way late to this party.

New to the site! Kyocera dealer for 12+ yrs...If KMA is going to start selling to consumers, think about it, the rewards program has you enter everything including name, operating system and then you must email them a copy of the invoice!!! They have all our customer info on a database. Soon, very soon...

I know we have only sold a small handful of 25 page per minute machines after the KM-2550 was discontinued. Really not that many 30 ppm tabloid class. Customers seem to either opt for an 1128 or 3040 or move up to color or 40ppm mono or faster.
It baffles me why they even bothered with the 25 ppm - it doesn't cost them any less to produce than the 30 anyway. They should be going for market share - eliminate the slower boxes in the same class and adjust pricing to the price of the slower box. If you're pitching a deal to a customer and the competition has a 25 ppm machine for the same price as our 30 ppm machine that's leverage. Plus nobody has to screw around with inventory on more items and KMA doesn't have to pay for additional tooling for the different speeds.
With customers having faster machines, the opportunity increases for more prints/copies being made which translates to more toner, maintenance kits etc. It's a win-win for everybody - KMA, the dealer and the customer!
