Hi guys;
Got a call to look at an HP p3005, message in display said "memory test failure replace Dimm 0" then shut off/on and got 48********* on the display, then I did a cold reset and was able to print the menu map and the config page, then I got a 49.4c02 error, turn off & on and got a blank screen...If I play with it, I can get it to do another cold reset, but I googled the problems and it all seems to lead to the formatter board. My question is, is this something I can do? do I need special tools? I looked on ebay and found refurbished formatter boards for $55.00 is this the way to go?
Thanks for your help.

You're on the right track with the formatter. I suppose you've got nothing to loose with the baking trick. I don't think that I'd have much confidence in that fix. For me, I'd have to order the formatter. =^..^=

Mr Bill.....Do you place it on a metal cookie sheet? Does it matter if any of the pins touch the metal? ...So let me get this right....remove the formatter board from the machine, place on a cookie sheet in the oven that is at 360 degrees for about 8 minutes...is this correct?

I did it. I received a couple different temp settings from different techs, so I split it and set the oven at 370 degrees and once it was ready I put the board in the oven for 8 min.....installed back in machine, and abra cadabra IT WORKS!!!!!!....thanks guys, much appreciated.

What about the on board battery - did you need to remove it, via de soldering the battery joints to the board.
