I've got a KM-3035 out on long term rental that is acting like the print controller is starting to crap out...I've got an FS-9520 parts box in the back...I know these machines are VERY similar, will the print controller swap out ok? anybody know? they "look" the same. Thanks guys. -Cope

The answer is No...When I first installed it I got a C0240...Swapped the DIMM's and it fired up just fine. I thought I was in business until I printed a Status Page and it was compressed 4 inches down from the top edge as if it were trying to squeeze it onto LTR-R paper rather than LTR...Couldn't get it to hold the 1200 DPI resolution and never did get it to print anything from the network. As if it wasn't even there...So I put the old one back in and it started printing.
I expect a recall though...Customer says they can print 1 or 2 jobs and then it will say "processing" indefinately...They cycle the power and sometimes it will print another job or 2 but most times it will just go back to "processing". They've got an in-house IT guy that won't let me touch a keyboard anywhere in the office. He says it's a bad print controller but I'm not convinced. I don't want to buy a print controller for this rental box just to find out it made no difference. So I told him I changed the Print controller out and now he has a HDD...I didn't 'technically' lie...I just didn't tell I changed it back to the original controller. Out of curiousity. Which is most stable PCL-6, KPDL, or KPDL Auto? Thanks guys -Cope "Some people are like Slinkies, Absolutely Useless...but you can't help but giggle when you push them down the stairs." |

I've had the best results with PCL XL, especially with Adobe & Publisher. It also spools faster.

I've wondered if you could change the firmware filenames to match to 'trick' any of these into working.
I've got some KM4530 print systems that I'd like to get going in KM2530's (or even 3035's if I could). I know there's at least a difference with one having a crystal and the other not. Relax? When?! |

KPDL Auto is what I try to set my print system emulations to whenever I can. Very important if there is a mix of Windows, Macs, Unix/Linux. Also important if there is ASCII print jobs from some old legacy application that used to use dot matrix line printers. I suspected there would be trouble with mixing print systems. I accidentally installed a mislabeled System R into a KM-5530 that was sold. It passed my quick print tests, but I failed to notice on the web interface page that it was reporting as a KM-7530. The customer kept reporting various strange printing problems for a week or so after installation, and was who pointed out to me about that web interface 7530 thing. I never was tempted to try the wrong print system in a machine again after that. ================================================== Chris L's Hiking/Geocaching blog (new and improved!) yoyoartist.blogspot.com |

My ruse worked...Customer called back and left a voice-mail yesterday at 5:05 demanding that I call her back "today or first thing in the morning if that's not possible"...So when I called at 9:45 this morning I asked for her and then immediately after she picked up the phone I told her who I was why I was calling and asked if I could speak to the IT guy (this way she has to acknowledge that I called her back at 9:45 the following morning...less than 1 hour response time right?)
Anyway when the IT guy got on the phone I asked him what emulation he was using on his server.............oh no server? So what emulation are you using uniformly across your network.... When I got there at 11:30 the IT guy comes running in before I even get to the machine and says "Everything is working fine I'm sorry to have bothered you." Turns out he has 2 offices in the building seperated by one suite. It turns out he has the PC's in the same suite as the machine connected with a standard router with a wireless router piggy backed off of that and mounted to the wall above the drop ceiling panels to connect with the 2 Mac's in his office 2 doors down. Some of the PC's were loaded with PCL6 drivers and some with KPDL and the Macs were using a driver for a completely different machine...he said "2035" but I'm suspecting 2050 and he had Appletalk turned off. He worked pretty hard in the hour and a half from the time I hung up until I got there but evidently he didn't like the idea of explaining why they had to pay the copier tech for IT support when they were paying for an "in-house IT specialist" I guess he figured he had 2 hours to get it finished so he could call and cancel my service call. I let him off the hook and didn't fill out paper work just because he was panting and sweating when he ran in. I love it when I can make an IT guy work. Thanks for the chuckle guys -Cope "Some people are like Slinkies, Absolutely Useless...but you can't help but giggle when you push them down the stairs." |

Why not just load the PPD in a generic Post Script driver?

hmmm Are you sure that's Legal in the state of NC? Seriously, I wish I could give an intelligent answer and I'm intrigued by your question but I haven't the foggiest idea what you're saying. The more we learn the more we realize we know nothing...so please...make me a moron? -Cope "Some people are like Slinkies, Absolutely Useless...but you can't help but giggle when you push them down the stairs." |

Just where do you find a generic PostScript driver that will work with WinXP and Vista these days? Adobe's driver has not been updated since Win2K was the hot new OS. ================================================== Chris L's Hiking/Geocaching blog (new and improved!) yoyoartist.blogspot.com |

It supports XP (I'm using one atm) but not Vista. I did a quick search and couldn't find any way to use PPDs in Vista. |

Google a file called winsteng.exe. Once you install it, it will let you browse for the ppd. and create an Adobe Post Script Driver. Search for 'ppd' in KMACONNECT, if you can't find them shoot me an email and I'll send both to you. Before Task Alpha, KM had all their ppd's in one folder for download. Winsteg is Vista compatible, currently have it installed on a clients Vista Basic unit. Z No HOPE, just BROKE. Anyone else - 2012 |
