Taskalfa 300ci Link light blinks non stop and machine locks up. When I run from laptop with crossover cable everything is fine print and scan. When IT person runs packet sniffer he says nothing goes in or out, when I ping from laptop 4 packets go out and come back right away with normal Reply, I am assuming its a network issue any ideas what could be causing it,or could it be a problem with Nic? Any input would help. Thank You "Machine has 6.0 firmware" The second I plug there network cable back in the machine locks up again. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Skyshot1,
Sounds like there may be a network speed issue occuring somewhere on the network segment.. I have seen this in the past where a 10mb hub is located on the segment somewhere and causes issues...If this is the case you may have to set the link speed to 10mb correct the issue or remove the hub completely.
To me it sounds like there's a print job coming to that IP address from a different print driver. Try assigning a different IP address to that machine and try it.
I have seen this caused by both a bad hub and duplicate IP's. I would first change the IP address, and if that does not work it may be a router/switch/hub somewhere between the printer and the workstation. Just follow the wire. Many times I have found a cheap old 10mbs hub hanging out in some corner office that IT doesn't even know is there.
I would agree that there's probably something going there that shouldn't. I frequently use dynamic addresses just to prevent this kind of situation. (It would be very unusual for the host name to be duplicated)
If there is a switch negotiation issue, this can sometimes be remedied by adding your own switch in the middle....
Thanks for the input from everyone although problem still remains.I will post what does fix it when it is fixed. Changing IP and restarting print server didn't get it. I'm going to add switch tommorrow and see what happens
Its fixed!! and it was something constantly writing to it as the posts suggested. Yesterday we ran a network monitor and nothing showed up until he did a reboot on the 2003 server at the end of the day. At that point it then showed a website sending non stop after he stopped that machine was fine. Thanks for the help!!
Skyshot- give the dirty details bud. IF i understand correctly some website outside the LAN was sending data to the IP of the machine? Got me thinking network security...hmm Wonder if someone was using the machine to browse the web.
I do not know website IT person is offsite I'll try calling him to find out,and will report back. The internet security protocol was set on high. Jeff that is correct,my field Rep. talked to his people also and they have seen this before "Rare" with the same condition " non stop almost steady flashing link light " and machine at that point with network cable plugged in would lock up, they do not browse internet with 300ci machine. Unplug network cable and machine goes back to normal no Op panel lock up. Two points I found interesting the network taffic causing the problem could not be seen until 2003 server reboot, and the only thing in the office that was effected was the TASKalfa. We were using both Line Sniffer, Wire Shark and Microsoft Network Monitor for troubleshooting network. Thats what happened !!
I recieved a voicemail from the IT person today it was a Microsoft Website!! that he is sure of,IP address or name he could not recall. He said it looked as if the Taskalfa grabbed onto something that it should of let alone. I'm sorry for not being more specific on the details I was not there for the reboot, and that's when traffic was discovered also when I asked the IT person did not recall all of the details.

It was Microsoft without question.
