Has anyone tried the new utility for scanning to a Windows 2003 Server? I was asking about it at the Boot Camp a few weeks ago, and viola it appears on Dealernet. I'm curious about how it worked.

I haven't personally tried it, however I gave it to the IT person at one of my accounts and he said it worked well.

I used it once. It sets up just like the old file utility. REALLY easy. Just have to turn kyocapture on at control panel and go to application-kyocapture then all the names you set up in the utility show up on the screen just like the sender list on the 4035 screen. I just wish you set it up using the utility on everything.

Hi Neverallout,

i'm trying to set this up but i always get communication error. i tried the default Port number which is 37169 and also i tried 37100.

Q1: Do i need a special utility for this? or can i use the standard Scan File Utility as in the other models?
Q2: Does it have to be configured on Win2003 server only and not on XP, 2000, etc?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

i agree with scoful; nevertheless this is a very useful alternative for those who have issues with SMB scanning especially on win2003 server.

Funny, I installed 3 KM-5050, all 3 were on 2003 servers as and none of the installs went smooth. All 3 had to use the utility.

Do you mean KMAConnect?
I have found the utility, SFU-V315-KC.exe.
How do I set up the KM-5050 to use this. How do you turn on KYOCaptuer via control panel?

Thanks

How about with Technical Bulletin 2 for the 3050 etc, also on KMA Connect? It shows you how to set it up.

Yes Freelancer, I did mean KMA Connect, sorry.
And Andrew is correct. Tech bulletin 2 explains how to set up the utility.

I'm using it at several customer's locations and it works well. However, I have one issue that I can't figure out. Does anyone know if it's possible to change the default scan settings when using this method. Changing the scan defaults does not change the "kyocapture" defaults of 200x200dpi, monochrome, single sided. My Rep told me it's possible to change it in Maint Mode, but I've looked at just about every SIM, and none appears to change these defaults.

I love this utility, you just have to load it on the server not on everyones workstation. I just set up a file called scans and throw everyones name into that file. Then when I get done I show the customer on how to find the folder and put a shortcut on the desktop. I am not a SMB fan nor a scan to E-mail fan. This is faster and more secure.

I was told the new firmware would allow scan to SMB on 2k3 without having to change the server's security settings or use the file utility.

I got that same answer from KMA when I asked them:

When using the "new" Scanner File Utility on a Windows 2003 server with a KM-3050/4050/5050, is there a way to change the default scan resolution from 200dpi? This new scanner file utility uses the application/kyocapture method and changing the scan defaults on the machine does not effect this scan setting.

Serial Number :General
Model Number :KM-3050

Hello,
The Scan to SMB issue with 2003 server has been rectified with version 2.03B firmware that will be released next week. At which point all will be advised not to use Scanner File Utility.
