Has anyone run into a problem with local providers going to SSL authentication. If you have a way around it please share. Thanks in advance.

Run your own email server on the LAN. It only has to be set to relay mail, with as little as a single account (for the scanner) set up on it.

ArGoSoft email server

David Harris' Mercury Mail

Both of these email servers are free to download and use. ArGoSoft is as simple as it gets. Mercury Mail is full-featured, but more difficult to configure. They both run as applications, so there must be a user logged into the machine they are running on, or use a 3rd party solution for running an application in service mode.

AT&T DSL also blocks outbound port 25 - so you can't use an outside mail server (unless maybe their on AT&T's network too - not sure on that).
I have clients that can't use their web host's smtp service even from their workstations. This has caused problems for them with timely delivery of messages - AT&T's mail server may take a couple of hours to deliver to someone in their organization versus 10 minutes or less with the host's service!

I've used ArGoSoft as well. This seems to be an increasing problem. I am hoping this will be worked out with firmware.

Many locations don't want to have their own mail server running (free or not). We all know what happens when you set something running on a workstation that only the copier uses - something gets changed or the workstation gets replaced...

XP Pro also has SMTP service in it that can be used. (At least you're not installing a 3rd party product on their equipment)

Relax? When?!

If you contact AT&T tech support they will tell you how to allow their modem to use an outside mail server so you don't have to use AT&T's.
