Got this model copier in a busy medical office setting and they are very frustrated. It locks ups and even with powering it off then back on, when they attempt to retrieve a stored document using the twain capture it comes up with a "Cannot connect to server" message. Tech support indicated that if the twain driver does not see any documents on the hard drive that it can capture it will display this message. There are scanned documents into the various boxes, all we could do was backup all the settings using Maint. Mode 917 and then reformat the hard driver, unfortunately this does not save any of the scanned documents in the boxes. Once we restored all the use box info back onto the hard drive and then scanned a new document into it twain capture worked fine. Does it seem resonsable to think that possibly the hard drive is starting to fail and should be replaced. I'm going to go back in a few days at the end of the day and run a scan disk on the hard drive. The big nuisance with this issue is that if the twain captures looses connection in the middle of a file transfer it locks up all send functions, no faxes can be sent because it continues to be in process of "sending" the twain retrieval data. Customer is not very happy with this device. They previously had a falcon 2, 5035 I think, and they prefer to use twain because it integrates easily with their medical records program, so SMB scanning is sort of out of the question, they don't want to clog up their server with scanned data. All user boxes are set up to auto delete the scans after 1 day. Just curious if anyone else has issues with using twain on the falcon 3s, or maybe I just have a flakey hard drive issue.

Scan Disk and reformatting really just buy you some time. If it wasn't working before you reformatted it but had worked for some time before just replace the drive.

The $60 you spend now will save your time and hopefully keep your customer happy in the long run.

Just remember - cache size: bigger=better

A little update on this situation, I ran the scan disk awhile back, well tried to run it. It ran all night long and did not finish. Replaced the HDD and got everything back twain scanning for them, well same problem re-occurs. This customer's busy days are on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, a whole lot of scanning going on. User boxes where scans are saved to are set up to auto delete after 1 day. Problem with lock up during Twain capture seems to occur mostly on Wednesdays. Could the HDD be getting to busy trying to delete the scans from the day before and occasionally become unavailable to the Twain scan capture causing the lock up to occur. It would be nice if we could choose a specific time of day to delete the files from the HDD instead of just a daily selection. In the mean time I stumbles across a settings selection on the customer's medical software program dealing with the Twain capture process that allows the file to be deleted once the capture is complete.

When they scan does the KM Twain interface come up or does it use software presets from the application?

I have a Falcon II user that uses TWAIN with an application that has some config options (adf, duplex, size specs etc.). It freaks out the copier and the application if you don't allow the KM TWAIN GUI to run the show.

It is an Electronic Medical Records program called MediNotes. It appears that it uses the KM Twain from with in a pop up in this program. They use to have a KM-3035 that they Twain captured from with no problems at all, of course they would have to make two trips to the copier, one to set the documents on the document feeder then again after the Twain scan captures them to retrieve the documents. Hopefully I will find out today sometime if any lock ups occured in the last day or two.

Well, Tech Rep was on site at this copier today. We shut off NetBUI and Appletalk. Installed KMNet Admin and can see and retrieve a 27 page document rather quickly from the HDD. Utilize the Twain and it takes at least 15 minutes to retrieve the same document and sometimes in the middle of the scan a message pops up indicating that it cannot connect to the scanner then all you can do is cancel the scan job at the copier and try to cancel it on the PC but usually end up rebooting the PC. Sounds like there may be some problem with the Twain driver. Installed the Twain driver onto my work laptop and connected to the copier with a crossover cable and tried to Twain capture the same 27 page document into MS Word with same results. Still working on a solution to this.

This is going to sound crazy, but it may work for you.

I had a TWAIN setup on Server 2008 that just would not connect with the latest TWAIN driver (also 2008). To test out the scan card I set up the SFU which worked fine, then TWAIN started to work.

I thought it was odd, so I repeated the same installation on another workstation. Same effect. TWAIN alone = no joy. TWAIN + SFU = TWAIN starts to work. I have no explanation for why this works or doesn't, but it might help you.
