I have a CS-3035 that we just installed that we can't get the scan to email to connect to the SMTP server. All of the setting on the scanner nic are correct and authentication is checked. When you hit the scan to email button the machine tries to connect for about a minute and then throws the error unable to locate SMTP server. I've entered the IP address for the SMTP but it still won't connect. I can ping the SMTP server from any workstation. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

check that the gateway is entered..using dhcp first and then changing to a static ip is the easiest way for scanner set up, then enter the smtp server ip or hostname if dns is running.

If you can, just leave DHCP on. Use host names instead of IP addresses. The NS-30 based scan systems actually work better with DHCP, as opposed to the NS-20 scans boards that didn't really work at all DHCP.

First a few questions are the workstations connected to a server? Is the server running the DHCP service or the is the router? Is the server running Exchange Server 2003 or lower?
Is the 4035 running through or is it as a device on the Server? Answer these questions and i'll have a answer for you.

I had a problem like that once on our showroom machine. I ended up manually entering the IP address and hostname of the scanner NIC into our DNS server. That fixed the problem for me.
Good luck.

But I'm trying, Ringo. I'm trying real hard... to be the Shepherd.

Most of the time it is either the DNS or the copier does not get authenicated on the SMTP server. I have had to in some cases give the copier a real user name and pasword on the e-mail server. download the KMAservice gateway documentation. It realy covers all the needed setup for send or scan to e-mails good. You might all se if you can get the machine to send a service e-mail throgh the copier NIC. At least there is some test functions there.
