I have a customer that has a 3225E and wants to create a PDF without the use of adobe distiller. I downloaded the latest driver and chose PDF instead of the KDPL. For Port I have chosen the print to file. When I print out the document it is saved as a .prn extenstion instead of a pdf. Is there a way to have it save the document as a pdf with no conversion, or does someone know of a simple way to convert this with some easy software.

Thanks

If you want something simple and free, try Primo-pdf.

I use it when I want to email a doc to someone that I know doesn't have the software to open it. Never had a problem with it.

Just google primo pdf

I don't think you want to check print to file as well. A dialog box should open when you print with PDF PDL asking where you want the file.

Install an additional printer using the KX Driver and call it PDF printer. Inside the printer driver under the Device Settings tab, select PDL and set it for PDF. Make sure that the "save to file" box is checked under the settings tab after selecting PDF as your PDL. Once this is done, every print job sent to this printer will pop up a window asking where to save the PDF file of the print job. It's a pretty neat feature of the KX Driver.

Install the free version of Paperport that comes with the Kyocera copiers. That will create a paperport pdf printer.

Progoffice nailed it.

Do not check print to file on the diver.

You were correct in changing the PDL to PDF.
When you switch the PDL to PDF there is a settings button there. Check "save to file" and uncheck "security".(unless this is necessary)

Thats it. When you print to that printer, a dialog box will come up asking where you want to save the file.

Works great! I have used it on numerous occasions and I have customers in the field that use it.

It beats installing another program.

Thanks for the help, because of the customers needs the PDF and save as a PDF was the solution that I was looking for. I never thought of looking under the settings tab. I am used to opening that up under the PCL driver to disable the auto draw switching.

Again Thank you for the help and all of the ideas.

The PDF option of the KX driver does work well.

Another easy option for PDF distilling for free is to use Open Office suite of software, as the current version had buttons for PDF output right on the toolbar.

Open Office is an entirely free open-source suite of software that can be used to replace most of Microsoft Office suite functionality. It will open all versions of Microsoft Office files and display/print all but the most complex formatted .doc files. It can also save with the MS .doc, .xls and other formats.

Personally I will not buy any more new versions of MS Office (still stuck on Office 2000) and will use Open Office more and more in the future.
