Have a strange problem with an 3 FS-8000's (latest system, engine, and NIC firmware) at an account. We are using the PCL mini driver, recently converted from KX drivers, Customer doesn't like KX driver. On all B/W machines, mini driver works perfectly. On these 3 FS-8000's, shared off a 2K server to XP clients, when they print, jobs come out just fine. The problem is, while they are printing, the job stays in the print queue and after a minute or so, reports "error-printing". On XP clients they get a popup bubble from the systray reporting the error which makes their users call the IT dept. Queue clears after job is physically done printing. Using Standard TCP/IP port on 2K server, have tried RAW, LPR, enable/disable SNMP and bi-directional support, error always pops up. Has anyone seen this before? Only fix I could come up with was to install and use KPrint on the server, but I'm not sure if thats a good idea. Does anyone know of any issues with installing and using KPrint on a W2K server in client/server environment? Thanks in advance for advice.

Latest ver. of Kprint is reliable, I've used it quite a bit. When you configured the simple TCP/IP port did you click it from RAW to LPR the check the box "LPR byte counting enabled" and give it a queue name, I use 9100 but it can be named anything.HP TCP/IP ports are also reliable use the configuration above.

In a setup that has the driver shared to all the workstations from a server, the K-print solution should work fine. It is Win 2K compatible (has to be for the email print feature). If it was a case of installing K-print on all the workstations, then I would work at a different solution. I actually believe that there may be an issue with some other printer or old print driver remnant on the server that is the real problem.
