I have a customer who is trying to connect their 1128 and their phone/answering machine to a single phone line. I've set the RX mode to Auto (TAD). This mode is supposed to allow the answering machine to answer and then switch to fax if the machine detects fax tones. For some reason it's not working. Has anybody else had to set a fax up in a similar environment?

Is there a way to set the amount of rings on the fax before it picks? The problem is that the fax is picking up before the answering machine answers. Either one can be adjusted.

I've never made this 1 line for many purposes setup work to a customer's satisfaction. Ever. Get one thing working, and they don't like how something else won't work like it used to.
Now what does work pretty slick is distinctive ring. That is where the user has 2 phone numbers coming in on the same line, but a different ring tone for the 2nd line. The fax DRD (distinctive ring detection) function actually does work fine. If the fax is set to pick up on the 1st ring of the assigned ring tone, then it will grab the fax before a typical answering machine, but not pick up on the voice calls using the regular ring, allowing the answering machine to work normally. This solution does have extra charges involved from the phone company (often the DRD service is bundled by cable and VOIP phone providers) but is a lot lower than a second dedicated phone line, which is the only guaranteed way to make a fax work. ================================================== Chris L's Hiking/Geocaching blog (new and improved!) yoyoartist.blogspot.com |
