Had a 5016 trying to print an 8 page bulletin in a handbook format from MS Publisher it would print the first 4 pages and
stop and the panel led would say "processing" about 12 mins later it would print a few more pages, etc, etc. Tried word,
web pages, they printed ok. So I pulled out my handy dandy 256Mb memory stick installed it set the FRPO's according to the
tech pub, set ram disk proportional to installed ram, reset machine and it did the same thing. Tech support said MS Publisher
is a heavy grapic program. He said even with memory maxed and a hard drive it would still perform slow.
My question
is has anyone had an issue with this, maxed out the memory and possibly installed a hard drive and printed with success from
MS Publisher??? Could it possibly spooling to the PC hard drive (virtual memory)and not the printer.
The receptionist at my dealership produces mailers using Publisher (MS Office XP version) several times a year, and prints
all of them out to the 5016 in our showroom. The printing is slow, but it happens.
I believe that the real reason for
the slow 5016 prints in general is that the CPU of the printer is just too slow for 17ppm color printing. The FS-8000c processed
quicker, but the color printing required 4 passes of the primary transfer unit, only one image was being produced at a time.
Slowish monochrome capable CPU can handle it. The 5016 is processing 4 images (all 4 colors) simultaniously for each page,
and the engine is twice as fast (in color mode). In theory, you should at least quadruple the processor power to get the 5016
as fast as it needs to be.

I see much groveling in my future.. I remember from previous posts about the pocessor speed being slow for this model for
decent RIP times. Does anyone know how to talk their way out of this one? Anyhow, Thanks Chris.
It is a church trying to run booklets, the only problem is with "booklet mode" I theorize because it is placing two pages
on one using twice as much ram "192" per page, instead of 96. Also the slow processor. Publisher uses all pixels like a bitmap,
even counts white. Microsoft Publisher Newsgroup says this is a problem with publisher not the printer [they actually rave
about the Kycorera printer Oy Vay!!} so I passed that on to the customer. She did not give me a big hug or anything but can
understand the software issues.

Don't know if this directly relates, but here it goes.
Just installed a 5016 at a customer who uses Publisher heavily.
They wanted the printer installed on their Win 2000 Server, then of course shared to network. All the latest firmware, drivers,
memory maxed, etc, etc...
Well, for some reason, their publisher files would not print completely, and some had colors
wrong, and I mean wrong, not even close. HDD, memory, and/or ram disk settings made no difference...
Just for fun,
I reinstalled their printers on workstations using standard tcp/ip ports, instead of network through server, and all is fine
now.
Doesn't really make sense to me, but who am I to question when it works??

You may want to try d/l the Adobe generic postscript driver from www.adobe.com.
Then attach the PPD file when you run the installer. Then set your device options. You could also use the KPDL mini driver.
I have seen both work in different situations. Let me know if it works for you.
