I have a customer printing from an AS/400 sending ASII data. Sends data thru cat 5 to a JetDirect box then out to parrallel to the 4035 print system U. The machine constantly looses data and locks up, I'm being told the JetDirect doesn't work well with anything but HP, and to buy an IPDS box from Twin Data for $600.00 anyone else had success with this product, is this the solution?
Yes, actually it's 146.07 now, machine and NIC cards all have latest and greatest. I found a tech bulletin on how to configure an AS/400, wondering now if their IT guy connected it correctly, these guys can't seem to connect anything but HP's.
Maybe they should abandon the Jet Direct and try to just use the built-in IB-21e. I haven't had to deal with AS/400 installation personally but I know that IB-21 NICs are supposed to be compatible.
I'll wager you already checked, but set the language for the parallel port to PCL6.

I think Chris L has a great idea. We've connected a number of machines to AS400's using the IB-21E. As long as it is just ASCII data, no IPDS conversion necessary, they should be able to create an outqueue or printer device based on an HP4 that will work fine. Jetdirect on a Kyocera print system (or any other non-HP print system) is not a good idea, even if it accepts the job you will have other problems. For example, if a report is printing and the machine jams, when cleared, the machine will begin printing from page 1 because the Jetdirect is handling the print job. KMAConnect has some helpful documentation on setting up the Kyocera print systems, there are a couple different ways to do it, but a decent AS400 admin should be able to work with you on this.

You'll never believe this, or maybe you will. The customer called me this morning (after I overnighted the IPDS box from Twin Data for $700) and said "oh by the way it's not an AS/400 we have a Unix system". No wonder they can't get the print sys connected they don't even know what they have, looks like another case of if I want it done right I'll have to to it myself. I'll check KMA for unix instructions.
Just for reference as this thread falls into archive...there is a 7 page document on KMAconnect about how to install a Kyocera printer in an AS-400 environment. It popped up for me this morning while searching for 5530 accessory manuals.
