I had a 4050 in an office for about 6 months with zero problems scanning to Windows 2003 DC server. Customer just upgraded to 2008 SBS and nothing is going through, scanning to the old server is working still but with a test user setup on the 4050 to the new server, nothing. Old server was demoted from DC and new one replaced it. I have been working with the IT director and he defiantly know his crap on servers.
I'll be onsite tomorrow and plan on upgrading copier firmware and rechecking scan settings. Anything else I can check or do please let me know.
What's the error code that is given when the scan fails? That should get you started on what to check on, whether it's a connection issue or an authorization/password issue.

Error code I'm getting is 1102. Tried DOMAIN\user , tried user@domain.com. Updated firmware to the latest. Logged into a workstation with the same user ID and password with no problems. Domain is entered in the networking tab. Scanning to the old 2003 server that was demoted as the DC still works OK as well as scanning directly to a workstation. So at this point it looks like a problem between the copier and 2008 SBS.

Refer to Chris L's post and link, it's a good one. What reading I have done on 2008 SBS, it looks like they tightened security up on it quite a bit, you may need to punch some holes in it to get it to work, good luck and let us know if you get it resolved.
Well as far as punching holes in it, I'll let the IT director handle that. I'm gonna call the hotline in the morning and see if they have any insight to it and go from there. If they have nothing looks like they have to figure out another way of scanning,
Konica Minolta was scan to SMB only at first, then they came up with a little tricked out program similar to the Scanner File Utility and last I remember when working on the Bizhubs you had the option of going either way. I wish Kyocera would do this, the Scanner File Utility gets around alot of security issues associated with trying to push data to a PC instead of a program on the PC listening for it's que to pull the data in.
It would be nice if the new systems could use the scanner file utility. We installed some 3060's at a financial institution recently, and they were not real happy with having to use SMB scanning and sharing a folder on the PC, security issues a big deal in this account. They also require login passwords to change every 60 or 90 days, real head ache for the copier needing to log into destination PC. We ended up setting up a user account that wasn't required to change passwords in order to deal with that problem, however using the SFU would have been preferred by this customer.

I must be blind, but where did you find the newer SFU for scanning to 2003 server on the 5050?
No such animal, I wish that they would make a version of SFU that would work with these models. Konica Minolta made their units so that you could scan either SMB or scan to PC using a program similar to SFU.

Bulletin #2 was about a special file utility that allows scanning to 2003 server and the falcon 3 series. Not sure if this SFU has been eliminated with copier firmware updates which allow packet signing.
Actually is does exist, I have downloaded it in the past. Not sure where they have moved it to? See Tech Bulletin #2 on that model and it gives details on the SFU for server 2003. I have a zip file of it if you need it.

Hotline sent over some info to try for server 2008. Again they are not sure if 2008 Server is the same as 2008 Small Business Server. To me the interface and such looks different. Was also told that the SFU for 2003 server is no longer needed as things have changed in falcon 3 firmware.
From Tech Bulletin #2 concerning the special SFU version for scanning to Windows 2003 server. New version of the Scan to File Utility is available for the Scan to File feature on the 3050/4050/5050 and will allow scanning to one (1) Windows 2003 Server. Due to tight system security settings by Microsoft on 2003 Server, it is not possible to use the Scan to SMB feature on the 3050/4050/5050 with the default group policy. The policy requires all communication to be Digitally Signed by default. This policy blocks communication from the MFP. It is possible to modify the Group Security Policy on the Server to allow communication; however, this will reduce the level of security. The new Scan to File Utility Version 3.15.9 (KC) can be used for Scan to File on a 2003 Server. The utility should be installed on One Server. The MFP will be able to access Only One Server running the Utility. This is a One to One Connection and is different from how similar Utilities worked in the past. You can setup multiple folders for different users and navigate to the correct folder from the operation panel of the MFP. The following pages will outline detailed setup and operation instructions. The Kyocera Scan to File Utility Version 3.15.9 (KC) is available to accommodate Scan to File scanning from the 3050/4050/5050. The file (SFU-V315-KC.exe) can be downloaded from KMAconnect. The file will self extract to C:/DESKTOP/SFU. Component Version Scan to File Utility 3.15.9 (KC) Limitations: • The name of the file that is sent to the SFU uses the 3050/4050/5050 scanner default setting. (The file name cannot be changed for each scan.) • The 3050/4050/5050 scanner default file name must consist of equal to or less than 10 characters. (If 11 or more characters are used, a file extension is not added to the file name stored in SFU, therefore, the file does not open.) • The character string displayed on the 3050/4050/5050 operation panel is in the (English, French, Italian) language that was selected when installing the Scanner File Utility. If German or Spanish was selected, English would be used on the panel. (In some cases, the operation panel may display in mixed languages.) • European special characters that may be included in the name of the folder and/or comment field at SFU destination folder will not display on the 3050/4050/5050 operation panel. • There is no continuous scan mode available. • While connecting the 3050/4050/5050 with SFU, the status will not be reflected on the SFU Status screen. Connecting with the 3050/4050/5050 does not affect the maximum allowable number of simultaneous connections for SFU. Furthermore, there is no maximum as to the number of simultaneous connections with the 3050/4050/5050. They are, however, correctly reflected on the reception notice pop-up display and the list of received files. Sounds like a rather tedious proceedure for just 1 scan to PC.
The SMB scanning problem that this tech bulletin was issued for was corrected by a firmware revision within 3 months. The special SFU version shown here was removed from KMA Connect after that.
