Just installed a FS-9100 that prints variable data from a DOS based invoicing system to a prescribe form I have on a CF card on the printer. Other than some position tweaking yet to do, it's working good. Now the "How do I...?". Along with an invoice number they also print a barcode of that invoice number. How do I get the barcode to print as a barcode? Where the barcode goes, I can get jibberish, or the actual number to print, depending on some emulation settings. Any thoughts? Thanx, Todd

The Prescribe command for a bar code is BARC, but you need a way to trap the barcode command from the print stream and assign the value to the BARC command. This may be an application for using the Universal Filter to trap that information. This is territory outside of what I have personal experience with but I believe that the next step is to get in contact with the software engineering section of KMA to enlist their help in configuring a filter. I would guess that they will want print samples and also for you to capture a sample print job to compact flash so the print stream can be anaylized. I think I would make sure to try all the printer emulation modes to see if one works first though, like maybe the Epson emulation. ================================================== Chris L's Hiking/Geocaching blog (new and improved!) yoyoartist.blogspot.com

Info I got from KM tech support is that I should be able to treat a barcode like a font and upload the barcode font file to the printer HDD via IC Link. I'm going to get back with the customer early next week and try and work this out. I'll let you know what I find out. Todd

An update... Been an on going struggle, but progress has been made. To make a long story short(er), with the help of Kyocera's support, and the right series of prescribe commands, and carefully written filters embedded on the printer, the forms, with a barcode reader, readable barcode is now produced. The prescribe language and the use of filters are very poweful tools. A bit tedious to get right, but powerful. Todd
