KM-2030 -- unable to connect to scanner

Trying to get the scanning option hooked up but am having a myriad of problems. [I'm not too network-savvy].

I'm trying to hook it up to the front desk computer -- using a cat5 [I believe] cable from the computer to the scanner.

I'm not sure on how to assign the IP's or which to use in this case -- printer status page shows an IP address and that's pretty much where I'm lost.

I have the scanner utilities but not the IB-2X installed [can't get past the IP part].

I've tried turning the firewall off -- still cannot connect to the scanner.

I give humble apologies for my ignorance in this area but any tips/help are always appreciated.

Drown [I'm in over my head this time] I thank you kindly for your time

I don't believe you can go directly from the computer to the scanner nic, you need to come off of a hub or router. The only way to connect directly would be with a crossover cable, for TCP/IP.

Sorry, I may have been a bit hasty in my first reply. I am assuming this is the legacy B/W 20 cpm model? And I am assuming you have installed the scanner card and nic? It is separate from the printer nic on this model.

Right you are on the legacy B/W 20cpm.

I took a peek at the machine and there's what I believe is the scanner nic, so we're good to go on that. But since it's not on a hub or router and I don't know if the cable is a cross-over, I'll certainly check into that. Smile

You have given me a great direction to go -- now I can go to the boss and tell him what may need to be done. Thumbs up

Thank you ever so kindly

We got the scanner up and running like a top.

Since I'm clueless when it comes to networking, I called upon my brother to set it up.

Though we cannot hook up to the internet on it, the cross-over cable was charming and the machine is fully scanner-capable.

Now I'm thinking of all the goodies I can scan into the computer. Wink

I give humble thanks once again for the reply.
