I suppose you could have the MFP hardwired to a wireless router at one of the companies. The other two companies would then need access to this network. As long as the wireless network was detected by the other companies, they could connect to it briefly (with the proper SSID and passkey) and send their print job. Scanning could be done via email, and it should not matter which network the machine was connected to. I would love to hear some other possible solutions to this problem.

You don't mention what device you're setting up, but the newer units support IPP printing over the internet. You may want to look into that option.

Add an IB-21E and a Jetdirect and you can keep all 3 separate (for print)- scanning would have to be on one network - so as progoffice stated - scan to email (although one of the businesses could utilize scan to file).
As VegasTech suggests - IPP printing could also be a solution (for print) Otherwise, the only other option I can think of is a dedicated 'print/scan' server - with 3 (or 4) network cards in it - one for each of the networks. It would require 3 (or 4) different subnets - not just IP ranges. Network 1: 192.168.0.1-254 Network 2: 192.168.1.1-254 Metwork 3: 192.168.2.1-254 The 'server' can be an XP (pro) box. The MFP could reside on one of the existing networks. DO NOT BRIDGE any of the connections or the networks will be able to see each other. Set up the printer as a shared printer from the XP box - workstations can't print directly to the IP since they most (or all) of them won't be able to see it. You can set up scan to file with multiple destinations - but they will all be to the print/scan server - users will have to retrieve them from there and privacy could be an issue. This can be controlled with permissions, but that could require a lot more effort. Hope this isn't too much information..... Relax? When?! |
