We have a client who shares a machine with other businesses in their building. There all on different networks so they cannot all print to it. A competitor says they have a color machine with a USB port to print docs from. Is there anything I can rig or offer them so we don't lose this account? Thanks!

You can add an IB21E and a jet-direct and they can all print seamlessly on independent networks. Add account codes and they can split the billing equitably.
Stomp your lame compitition's suggestion of using a USB key to print. Most can only print PDF files or JPEG's - it's really inconvenient for the customers. Relax? When?! |

Mabye a reach considering the polling time but, what about setting up an email address and printing to that. That would give all the oppotunity to print in theory.
Tough spot to be in. One of our vendors offers USB printing on their color line. It seems to be a feature that is sold but, is rarely used. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Snowbelt, |

Ok, another idea probably equally bad. What about setting up a network location or IE favorite that is the FTP address of the printer.
You would have to forward port 21 in the router to the MFD ip address. A bit of a security risk. In effect you browse to ftp://the customers' internet address:21/lp1/ then any PDF file you drop in the folder prints. The customer has to create PDFs to use the thumb drive anyway. Tried this from home to the MFD at work. It works and is surprisingly fast. The best way is to make a my network places shortcut then just drag and drop or save as. May not work for you but it is kind of cool. Is it sad that I'm doing this at 10 oclock at night? Aaron |
