Scanning to SMB In a Mac environment running OS 10.4 and 10.5 out of the Five Macs I could hit the host name on only one of them, the rest I had to settle for IP address. The one that worked I used \\hostname\shortname “lower case”. On the ones that didn’t when I switched to IP it went through. Am I missing a setting too allow the use of host name? Any help I appreciate! They have laptops that come and go.This message has been edited. Last edited by: Skyshot1,
Are the problem machines using some ridiculously long "computer" name? The one time I had this issue, even trying to make a shorter hostname did not work. I had to make the user rename it with something reasonable in length, like 16 characters or less. I tried to use the IP, but of course they had no idea of how to make their DHCP server give a permanent lease to their Mac. I was back a week later when the IP changed, and forced the issue on renaming the Mac.

Yea Chris it is like ******-*********-*******.local and I agrea making it shorter should help, although the one that works is just as long ? I don't know if this has anything to do with it but the first one I tried to connect with host name worked then the following would not.
