Sold a CS620 to a law firm last week. Kyocera trainer tried to install the scan utility but it failed. We decided to use Scan-to-SMB.

My problem is that there are only 10 destinations. The office has over 50 workstations. The Scan-to-PC shows 100 destinations, but again that would not install.

Is this a firmware upgrade issue?

Thank you in advance.

The SFU install itself failed or it didn't work after you installed it?

If it failed to install this would likely be a rights issue. Install it as a local administrator.

If it installs but fails to scan it would likely be a local firewall issue. Make sure port 37100 is open.

To streamline setup I usually install SFU on whatever server they have that stores their user profiles. You then only need to setup the utility on one device and use folder designations for each user that is needed. (It would be nice if they'd integrate the folder browsing function of the old database utility....)

Scotty,

The installation of the sfu failed. Tye legal administrator is pushing to do the scanning with smb. He doesn't want other "utilities" running. (me rolling my eyes).

Still not sure why the 620 and probably the 820 only have 10 destinations.

Thanks for your help so far.

That doesn't sound correct that you can only scan to 10 pcs, the number of scan to locations is limited by only the number of addresses that you can load in at the command center, which is alot more than 10.

I haven't set one of these up for SMB - are you sure you're not looking at the 'One Touch' buttons that were added later?

Also - I usually make an argument for SFU about whether or not it's really prudent for an MFP to have true network credentials. If they're scanning to multiple destinations and they have a password reset policy they'll have to update the MFP along with that unless they make an exception.

The biggest pitch is that if you place it on the server there's less admin work involved - just a little upfront learning curve. If only it could be configured to monitor the user profile folders and automatically add destinations as new users were added we'd have a serious edge....

Don't know for sure about the 620, but do know for a fact there are only 10 SMB locations available for the Voyagers. Been down this road before.

I agree, both the Voyager series and KM-6030/8030 have a maximum 10 SMB destinations. Same is also true for FTP. There is no substantial change from the 6030 to the 620i scan systems.

If this customer needs more destinations, then they need to relax the policies a little to allow installing SFU.

Try using a different version of the SFU. I seem to remember that the latest SFU listed on the Copystar site was actually for the color units but it was incorrectly described as listed. I tried another one and it worked fine. Took a while to figure that one out.

Et all,

Sorry it took so long to get back.
We ended up reloading the SFU (correctly) and fixed the issue. He was worried about security, when I explained that using SMB left the folder open because of "Sharing". With the utility, no other client would have access to the folder on another client(w/o admin rights, of course).

All is well is the Kyocera world today.

Thanks again.
