I am installing at a customer site a KM-C2520
with a static IP for scan and print. The customer network uses an alphanumeric name for the send to locations but for whatever reason scan to pc will not work. If I test with a static IP machine works fine. Installing paperport to allow scanning works just fine no mater what. Can anyone advise if the scanning can be done with netbios or is this just a printer related setup protocol? Iam out of town doing this installation so if there is a quick response that would be appreciated. Thanks ED PS all firmware up to date and I can do smb scanning with static ip no problem. |

You should be able to successfuly scan to a host name. The scanner we need to be supplied a DNS server address. The ipconfig/all at a command, will provide the dns server that the workstation is using. You can test DNS functionality by pinging the name from a different PC.
Hope I understood your question. Have fun |

Snowbelt is correct, also see if they have a WINS server on their network they may be using WINS. I have seen on some networks where some PC's just won't work with a host name and I have been finding it more frequently on Linksys and Cisco wireless networks with encryption enabled, I'm not sure if the router encryption effects the IP packets, when they hit the router, this is just my theory right now.

It is also advisable to see if you can even resolve host names on their workstations. Try pinging by the host name on a workstation to see if it will resolve. Substitute 'workstation' in the following example for the machine you are trying to resolve:
From a command prompt: ___________________________________________________________________________________________ Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. C:\Documents and Settings\Scott>ping workstation Pinging workstation [192.168.1.5] with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 192.168.1.5: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128 Reply from 192.168.1.5: bytes=32 time=4ms TTL=128 Reply from 192.168.1.5: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=128 Reply from 192.168.1.5: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=128 Ping statistics for 192.168.1.5: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 4ms, Average = 1ms _____________________________________________________________________________________________ If you see 'Destination Host Unreachable' the DNS for their lan isn't properly configured. Also, I think you can turn the network communication time up on the copier if the DNS is slow to respond. Relax? When?! |

Scoful, i have seen this happen more often than not on networks that dont' have an in house DNS server, what would you do to resolve that issue.
