Machine is getting a memory overflow indication with the "EF1" code in the display, customer is using XP on a 3 user network. Tech in the field said this code is not listed anywhere and can't get it to clear, any one know what it means? Thanks.

I found the EF1 code in the print sys M setup manual. I would think it would be the same code for the print sys K. It doesnt give much info except for error in printing and call service personnel if off & on of main switch doesnt clear the problem. I would suggest disconnecting and reseating the print card. This might clear the code.

I have had several of these print sys K & M with memory overflow and installing the max of 128mg memory stick has solved the problem.

Hope this helps.

cpi, thanks for the info. We did reset the print board and it didn't help, I'm going to get the customer more memory to see if that fixes it, I'll post my results.

EF1=Checksum Error. It's the DIMM Module that contains the firmware that's defective.

If the code is the firmware module, you could try just pulling it out and reinserting it into it's connector as a starting point. Reflashing the firmware might do something also.

Hotline has told me in the past you can order preprogrammed modules from Dallas, but they did everything but laugh at me when I tried once.

It is definitely the firmware DIMM, I tried to flash it but I can't get by the error message to format the CF Card. Question: Can a card that has been formatted in a CF Reader for copier firmware be reformatted in a printer? Or once formatted for a reader must it always be used that way? And anyone know a part number for the Firmware DIMM?

You can reformat the CF card, but once the f/w on the DIMM is corrupt, I don't think it's possible to flash it using the CF card. Check with your tech support if they can rewrite the firmware using a "DIMM writer".

I found the following info in an old bulletin:
How to restore the machine from Checksum error F1:
1. Turn the power source off and the CF card containing the F/W into the printer PCB slot.
2. Turn the power source on and set the machine to printer mode (the checksum error F1 is still showing on the display)
3. Press either the START or STOP key for 5 seconds continuously (If Fax kit is installed, you can also simply open the lid of the one-touch key panel, since pressing the START key and the detection of the open lid of one-touch key panel trigger the same operation.
4. After that, the firmware is intialized and automatically the program is owerwritten.
5. Wait until process is completed! After completion of F/W upload, disconnect the power plug and remove the CF card.

That's from General Technical Bulletin #49.
There's a hotline operator that gets very mean to you if you admit to not knowing about it. Mad

Can we have an update to see if that worked please.

You can lead a horse to water, but a pencil must be lead.

bep,
Thanks for that bulletin info, it worked, have to hold down stop and start at the same time though. I can't believe this info is in the first bulletin on this machine and I never saw it. Anyway the machine is printing fine now, so thanks to everyone for your help.
