Need help with Muratec 4550. Fax issues. Intermittent issues with fax line not dropping off after fax has completed the reception. When we test line voltage on receiving fax side have seen 50V AC. However, their phone tech said that everything is normal. At the moment don't know what voltage reading the phone tech saw. Fax system has been replaced. Don't seem to be getting too far with Muratech tech support. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have had this issue in the past with Muratec machines because of an incorrect phone patch cable being used. The correct cable will only have 2 contacts on each end for the single pair. The phone cord being used (which actually came with the machine from Muratec) had 4 contacts on each end with 2 pairs of wires. The for contacts are much more common but for some reason cause the Muratec modem to hold the line open after the reception is completed. I have also seen this issue on a Samsung caused by an odd memory glitch that seems to be fairly common on Sammies. For this reason I always go into Service mode and perform an "All Clear" before setting up a new machine. This practice has cut out a significant number of odd issues that were occuring in the first 6 months of the machines life. Good luck HtH -Cope

Great advice. Thank you very much. We will go into the account tomorrow and change the phone patch cable to a cable with 2 contacts. I'm sure we are using the one that came with the machine. I will post again this week with our results. Thanks again.

All Samsung fax connections must have a 2 contact connector only. This is per Samsung Tech Support, it is one of the first things they have you check, if it is a 4 contact phone cable, you will have problems.

Looks the same as the samsung 6345. What is the firmware version on that machine? can you send me the configuration page? I can cross reference them for you. Samsung had so trouble with the fax a couple of months ago and alot of it was fixed with firmware.

Thanks for everyone's help with this problem. Doedee316, at the moment I don't have a configuration page. I should have one by the middle of the week.

We switched the phone cables to 2 contact connector with no success. Still had same problem. Some additional information....customer using T1 line for the fax, previously had a KM 2030 using the same line and never had any problems with fax. Voltage when ringing is 50V AC, Muratech tech support told us there needs to be 90V AC. Customer's T1 contractor told him that a voltage boaster needs to be put on the phone line. We ordered one on line and it should be here on Wednesday. If anyone can help me understand this entire concept of T1 lines, please feel free to respond. All help greatly appreciated. It feels like I am training to be phone technician. Thank you.

T1 is a digital line, not a standard analog line. So I would suspect they are using VOIP, I have yet to get a Samsung MFP to work well with any digital line. I don't know about the Muratec, but standard practice is to reduce the baud rate 33,600 to 9600, turn off error correction, and reduce the echo db if possible.

Good Luck

Just wanted to clarify my statement
"I have yet to get a Samsung MFP to work well with any digital line." My experience with many different models of Samsung on various digital line carriers has been that even with everything set to optimum settings as mentioned above, you will experience a failure rate of 1:5, you may help to offset this by increasing the number of retries.

The phone line specs that you are looking for is 12V DC offhook, 48VDC onhook, 90V AC onhook, 115V AC peak ringing. Use an analog meter(d'arsonval movement) for the AC readings. Cheaper digital meters will not respond quick enough to give true readings.

From what I've read in the previous posts, I suspect that your phone line voltages are not even close. =^..^=
