I have a KM-3050 that comes up ready to copy, but the touch screen will not respond. You can make a copy and print to the machine, but no touch screen selections. We have replaced the panel and main Dimm's, LCD assy, tablet, LCD inverter PCB and updated the firmware. Anybody got any ideas? Thanks.
The plastic edges of the frame around the LCD display can become warped and press on the screen rendering it useless. Try putting a flat tool under the edges and try to remove pressure. Ive had two LCDs does this.
Like Copymech says, I've seen broken bits of removed staple slip under the edge of the panel. All it takes is disassembly and careful cleaning to fix this.
I've also seen where the ribbon cable to the display rubs on the rear frame of the movable display. When the display is in the lower position the panel works. When the panel is up, it becomes intermittent, or totally inoperative. In this situation I bent a gentle radius in the ribbon cable to the display, so it doesn't rub on the frame. It took 3 or 4 tries to get it just right, then it was never a problem again. =^..^=

I don't think the LCD screen is warped, as I said we replaced that to no avail. Also all buttons on the panel work, just not the touch screen. Has anyone seen the hard drive cause this problem? We have had those cause various problems in the past. Thanks for the input.

It's not the LCD that warps, it is the plastic of the operation panel. It warps and the edges of the plastic that "frames" around the LCD will press down on it continuously. The way to check this is to simply loosen up all the screws that mount the LCD display to the operation panel. If it starts to work again, then add spacer shims between the panel and the LCD.

Yea I understand what your saying but I just tried that to no avail. Also this op panel will only register one digit at a time. In other words if you input 2& 5 on numeric keys, only the 5 will register. Last button pressed will display. Engine board, main board, and hard drive have been changed. Same symptom when this op panel is moved to another machine. Kind of lost on this one.
I had a similar problem where no matter what button was pressed the number 5 would show up on the display, a memory backup solved the problem, might be worth a try.

I've seen a problem similar to this on the 2560's, we had to removed the display and put black tape around the entire metal fram holding it in with the brd., took care of the problem. Don't know but might be worth a shot.

Thanks for the suggestions, but remember I can't do sim 201 or export memory from sim 917 because you need a functioning display! I will try the tape around the display suggestion and let you know. Thanks for the input.
