an eeprom chip was damaged while replacing main board, tech line said just to order new ones and put them in. we did that and it still is giving the same code. anyone had to deal with this before??. thanks for any help.
Follow up. the machine is now running agian, when we changed out the eeprom chips the machine still had the same code, and was in another language, the regonal rep had to come and put in some special codes in the touch panel, and was reset and back up and running correctly, he would not give up the code, and we had to reput in the serial number and the page count. they came back zero to start with... would be nice to have that info we could have had that machine back up and running a week ago, leason learned dont mess with eeproms if its not absolutly nessasary.
Well, then "Backdoor" engineering code to get in is 30363036. Be very careful when using this code, you can literaly change the serial number of the copier, which is not advised. If you have a fax system in the copier also be advised that it will wipe out the address book of the fax system, so either back it up with U917 first if you can, or use the Fax Address Book editor to save the book to a PC so you can send it back later. This comes in handy if you get a count that doesn't clear properly when replacing a component such as the Drum or Developer unit. I've had Drum units, that when installed caused the Drum counter to goto all 9's. Using this code allowed me to change the drum count back to 0. BUT BE CAREFUL, DO NOT USE THIS CODE TO RESET MACHINE COUNTS. That will get you into trouble.
I tried the 30363036 code on task alfa and it does not work.I often wondered how many of these "engineering" codes are out their and how useful they can be for service and trouble shooting? Are we having fun yet?
The TaskAlfa's do have a new engineering code and they are keeping this one close to their vest. It is just a matter of time before someone goes "oops" but this one is taking a longer than usual time to leak.
Proximity to stupidity is exhausting!

I couldn't figure out how to change serial numbers or manually change counts with an engineering code on the 500ci. It did give me access to a bunch of extra test patterns in U089. It also gave me access to the real U020 which reset every counter to 0, so I can see why they don't want the code to get out.
I'm not sure if the tech reps get them easily anymore. I think I gave my tech rep the code before Kyocera did.
