I am rebuilding a KM-4230. Through scanner only a thin white line shows up. Cleaned optics, Xpo lamp and shading plate(this is the white strip on the original glass?), tried Sim063. What am I missing? Copier generated images do not have line.

Catch me if you can! |
This happens to me every so often after doing a PM on a 2310/3010. They sometimes just go away. I believe that they are caused by lint (and sometimes the lint balls from clean rags) dangling under the light source in the path of the image going to the CCD. Reclean the mirrors very carefully.

Line is gone. I looked at all the mirrors, shading plate, lens, and CCD with a flashlight and did not see a thing. I cleaned the snot out of them all a couple of times and it finally went away. Wish I knew what was dirty. I had tried the sim for shading position, but it made no difference.

Had this too...I turned out to be toner flaking off the original onto the glass, almost impossible to spot or predict.
