Just trying to get some ideas on an error code C8140. I know its a main tray problem and i checked and cleaned all sensors and made sure it moves ok. The finisher will come to ready but when you send a job to tray A it will go down then throw the code. All other trays will work ok. Thanks for any ideas.

So you can manually operate the tray in service mode? How far down does tray A move before it errors out?

El-springo is broken on solenoid up inside finisher. Solenoid is the one that actuates the holder paw thingies for tray A. Put a new spring on 'er and she'll be good as new. Sorry about being so technical.

I've got one doing the exact same thing. Paper enters inner tray, then main tray descends until coding out. I'm suspecting the main board, but only happens with inner tray, hence inner tray pcb may be telling main pcb to drive the main tray. Angry

Dan, it really is more likely to be that solenoid spring as mentioned earlier in the thread. If you see that plastic finger-thingy extend out to grab paper in tray one, stay there, then the tray decends, that is due to the spring being broken. The finger-thingy staying in place fools the sensors into thinking the tray is full of paper and it starts going down all the way. If you push it back into place while the tray is decending, it will stop and no code will happen.
