Hello to all, I have recently had a rash of pm kits (MK-706) with drums that have a very pronounced squeal in them right after installation. The hotline is unaware of this and I wanted to see if anyone else is experiencing this problem. The squeal will not show immediately after installation. It usually shows within the first 20-50 copies ran, though. It is the cleaning blade making the noise and it can be quieted temporarily with starting powder or approx. 3 drum refreshes. It will come back and continue making the noise for up to 1000 copies and then go away. It is getting to be a problem with customers. I had one so loud, I could hear it before I entered the customer's office!
Anyone else having this problem?
Is it being reported?
What are you doing to correct it?
All replies are appreciated!!!!

That's quite a coincident, just had a fellow tech do a 5035 PM and the drum squeeled right out of the box. I had him powder it good and that quieted it down for a day. He ordered another drum and replaced it. The "New" drum ran part of a day and also started squeeling. I ordered a new "Cleaning" blade, but in the mean time I removed the drum unit and removed the cleaning blade and powdered the hell out of the drum and blade and put it back together. Only time will tell if it starts squeeling again. The drum from the PM kit is going back to be warranty returned.
I have disassembled and powdered also. I too a close look at the blade and couldn't notice anything different ( I wonder if they have changed the material or manufacturer? ). It worked for a while and then came back. I left it in since it was 100 miles from my shop.

Sorry to bring this post back from the dead. I too have seen some squeal.
My latest one is on a KM5050. Their original drum was squealing so I replaced it and customer called back that afternoon complaining of noise. Got to the account and no noise of course. I did a couple sky shots to coat the blade.
So what's the deal, any real fix out there?

I ran across the same issue. When I removed the shaft from the drum I noticed the brass bushings were worn. Seems odd that a so called drum would worn bushings.
Had this many times. There is some sort of crap on the drums when they are new. If you use a cotton pad across the drum you will feel what I'm talking about. You will need to rub them down with some toner to get the crap off of them b-4 using and then use drum powder.
I also had the noise on a new 3035. I removed the drum unit, took the charge unit off, and put a bunch of toner on the drum, then spun it back and forth. The noise is gone.
