Just bought this machine with only 150k on it. Looks brand new. As long as I have the fax system connected, it will not go in to simulation. In fax mode it just displays "Modem ERR!!!" Bad modem? Bad fax board or ribbon cable? Thanks.Greg

Always start with the ribbon cable. Sometimes you can use a scissors to trim away a millimeter or 2 from the end if the contacts are frayed. Be careful about ordering a replacement because there was a change in mid-production and the ends are not orientated the same with the old and newer versions.

The modem itself should be located on the "fax" board. The other (NCU) board just is the interface to the phone line. I don't believe Kyocera will repair these anymore, best bet is to try to find a machine out there with a fax A in it and use it for parts.

BTW, that was always a crappy fax system in my experience. Fax system C I think was the first one that seemed to work well.
