Hard disk is shot. It is a standard 2.5 inch IDE hard disk for laptop computers. I've installed replacement hard disks bought from the internet into the card in the past and it worked fine. (oops, too many prepositional phrases there)

Actually, if you have a surplus ai-2310 or 3010 with the optional print hard disk installed, those 6GB units work very well if you format first on a PC using a USB hard disk enclosure.

Does this machine have a duplex unit? We've had many failures of HD's on these models with Duplex units (the ADU restricts air flow and the HD overheats). We've actually just removed HD's in this scenario and maxed out the RAM free of charge for the customer. Much more reliable!

Compact flash to IDE adapter works even better but honestly unless you are using the JOBO FRPO command the hard drive is pretty much useless compared to maxed out RAM drive, JMO.
