I have a KM 3530, roughly 534,000 copies. My problem is the user can get approx. 100 copies before "Image Cycle" comes up on the display, runs for a few minutes, then asks to "change toner". I was able to run 90 copies before the Image Cycle message appeared. I then removed the original dev. unit and re-inserted it, which made the image cycle message go away and was able to finish copying. The same scenario happened a few minutes later so I tried swapping out dev. units and running U 130 to refresh toner. Toner was not getting dispensed to the new dev. unit - the magnetic roller was clean. I have tried new toner containers, and checked the toner feed solenoid in U33. I called the kyocera hotline and the only thing they could suggest was to swap out the toner sensor located directly to the left of the toner container itself, inside the sheet metal cage that holds the container. Anybody have any suggestions on what I might be overlooking?
Have you checked to see if the toner augers are rotating?
It's been a while since I've heard how to do this, but I think you take out the toner container and cheat the toner container sensor as well as the two front cover sensors. Then run something like U130 and see if the gears turn.
Also make sure the toner drive in the machine matches the gear on the toner container: there's a triangle and a square connector, one for the copiers and one for the printers (I don't remember which is which).

DOES YOUR CUSTOMER RUN HEAVY PAPER STOCK THROUGH THE BYPASS? WITH THIS VOLUME, IT MAY BE SEVERAL THINGS. THERE ARE A SERIES OF BELTS AND PULLEYS LOCATED ON THE REAR OF THE MACHINE BEHIND THE MAIN PCB. THE ADD TONER BELT WILL SOMETIMES LOOSE SOME OF THE TEETH ON IT BECAUSE IT SLIPS BETWEEN THE DRIVE PULLEY AND SPACER. THIS PINCHING ACTIONS TEARS ABOUT 5 TEETH OFF THE BELT AND IT WILL INTERMITTENTLY CEASE DRIVING THE TONER CARTRIDGE SYSTEM. KYOCERA HAS A MODIFIED SHIM TO KEEP A NEW BELT FROM SLIPPING OFF THE PULLEY AND GETTING DAMAGED, BUT ITS NOT A LOT OF FUN PULLING THE BOARD OUT TO REPLACE THE SHIM AND BELTS. SEEMS HEAVY STOCK USE THRU THE BYPASS PLACES AN EXTRA LOAD ON THE BELT DRIVE SYSTEM AND CAN ACCELERATE THE PROBLEM. THE STRESS FROM FEEDING HEAVY STOCK CREATES MORE OF A PROBLEM ONCE THE BELT IS DAMAGED. CHECK BOTH BELTS AND SHIMS AND PULLEYS WHEN YOU GET INTO THE MACHINE. YOUR TECH REP SHOULD HAVE SOME Q AND A'S ABOUT IT.
I would replace the toner clutch assy( I think you can find it in Fig.16, #2, p/n 2BL22520) It uses a spring clutch and if memory serves me correctly the hubs are plastic. It's a bear to get to because of the main pcb and bracket plus alot of connectors, wires and other fun stuff.
I agree with never laughs. I have changed several of these belts for the same reason. good way to troubleshoot is if your bypass does not work at all since the belt in question drives the bypass aswell as the toner system

I checked the toner container, it is the correct one, same gear system and everything.
It's interesting what Joedohm says about the bypass not working because a previous call, taken by another technician, was about the bypass jamming, not wanting to feed paper. he thought he had fixed it, and this was the original problem I was called out on...I just ran into this problem on the machine first. I have the toner clutch assembly on order from Kyocera, we'll see how that turns out.
do you know kyocera's name for the add toner belt you described? I can't seem to find it in the parts list. I see a few belts I think you might be referring to, am just wondering which one you mean.
