I’m not a dealer, but I’m the technical guy for a charity I work with. I normally service the laser printers/copiers myself, but we just got 2 second-hand Kyocera KM-5035 and they are very new for me.
They’ve been working like a dream for about 2 months, but one of them is giving “paper cassette is out of order. Select another paper drawer” for drawer #3. It started when someone reloaded the double cassette with paper, last week.
I can see an LED on the small board in the back of the lower module (where the large double cassette is). The LED is steady when the drawer is open, and blinks when closed.
Is it something easy to diagnose? I’m trying everything I know and is safe to try, before we call a technician. As you know, charities don’t have that much funds, so we try to fix things ourselves.
You'll have to "906" the machine. Get into the "service" mode of this copier by entering in "10871087" on the numeric keypad. The screen will essentially go blank with "U000" displayed in the top left area. Type in 906, which is a reset command, then touch the "Execute" on the touch screen. If the paper feed unit disables itself again immediatly you have problems which you will need an experienced Kyocera trained tech to look at, most likely though one of the lift motors will need to be replaced, again you will need access to parts for this particular machine. The lift motors have a plastic shaft that will twist slightly do to the torque involved from lifting fully loaded trays, the coupler on the lift motor will get pushed back on the shaft when the drawer is closed and will essentially "Lock" in place and will not lift the tray at all. If you wish to check this, remove the drawer and press the lift couplers in on the shaft and see if either one slightly sticks in place. Good luck with it.
Elheather, you’re my hero!!!!! The 906 solved the problem. I guess we put too much paper on the drawer last week, and it jammed or locked the lift or something like that. Just left the drawer 3 open, did the 906 and we heard that beautiful sound of the paper lifts working again.
Thanks again guys!!!! You saved us heaps!!!! Cheers.
