5050 that is new and is always going into the duplex mode this is slowing down the speed of copier. Seems like that somehow it duplex all copies but does not print on both sides unless you select duplex help.

There is a simulation to force all copies/prints to be duplexed by default. That does not sound like the case here since you only get print on one side unless selecting duplex.
This sounds more like the normal "face-down speed" setting that is the default (a simulation). Every copy that is made using the DF will eject face-down by getting turned around in the duplex section. If you copy off the glass, it will jut eject straight out. This often causes problems with places that copy onto cardstock and forget to place the original on the glass and use the DF out of habit. There is a sim that allows you to select "Face-up memory" for DF copies. There is a compromise here since the copying will only begin after the last sheet is scanned in the DF so it can output the job last sheet-first so that the copy output is in the same order as the originals.
We tend to turn on "face-up memory" on all of this type of model to save wear and tear on the duplex/switchback sections and eliminate the possibility of cardstock being fed into the duplex. If a customer makes noise about the slow initial copy speed, then we will set to "face-down" with an explanation about using the glass when copying cardstock/transparencies from the bypass.

Just and explanation of why these machines were set this way:
Face down mode allows the copier to start copying immediately (without scanning all of the originals first). Otherwise all of the copies would be in reverse order. The other method scans all of the originals first, then prints them face up in reverse order (so the stack order ends up correct - last page printed is first scanned). I think if you have a finisher attached it doesn't have to do this (if you are sorting that is).
Simulation U343 allows you to set duplex as a default for falcons 1, 2 and 3.
U331 on falcon 2's gives you the ability to select between "face down (normal), face up (speed), or face up (memory). Face down (normal), the default, starts to copy as it starts to scan. The face up (speed) setting will put pages out of order, also starts to copy as it starts to scan. Finally face up (memory) only starts to copy after the last page is scanned (a possible negative to customer perception), but is the most reliable setting, from a paper feed perspective, since the paper doesn't have to be flipped over. This choise was also on other models but I'm not real sure if it is available on the falcon 3s.This message has been edited. Last edited by: DaveH,
