I have seen some hard drives go bad on a copier or printer, removed them from the board they come with stick them in my computer/laptop run partition commander and find that the HD is not really "bad" the board it is attached to is. You might try sticking the HD in another copier and formatting it too (if you have already sorry). I think those boards they come with are flakey and a point of weakness in the chain. It is possible that data sent to the drive could damage/corrupt the file system, but a reformat would repair that issue. If you are into Thinkpads take a trip Here!

http://www.v-com.comIt is a bootable partitioning software program. There are others but I have used this one a lot and it is very reliable and flexible. If you are into Thinkpads take a trip Here!

This post is 4 years old, but then the KM-3530 that I'm headed out to see tomorrow is at least that old. I've got a machine that gives "Cannot reformat hard drive." message every time someone prints or scans. I plan on removing the hard drive to see if the errors clear. Next I figured on sending a PreScribe command to format the hard drive. The problem that I have is that the replacement hard drive (HD3) costs me $600, and the whole machine isn't worth that much. Can I substitute a laptop hard drive, then format it on the copier? I've read about substituting laptop harddrives, but have never tried it. Are there any tricks I need to know?
