Yes I have checked the spring on exit arms that hold paper after exit and did the timing on it per instructions sent by tech services. Whats weird is timing was off so thought great that should do it. Have had this fix two in the past, but not this one.It can do a few up to like 50 sets before getting the code. What happens is the paper comes out, arms never come down and then tray starts desending.About six inches down it will code out.Replaced the solenoid for arms and sensors that look across the tray for watching paper height. Also did firmware even though was already up to date. Thinking about trying tray upper home position sensor next. Any ideas ?

This will sound ridiculous, but give it a try. I had this exact same situation on a DF-710 (connected to a VoyagerE). I re-loaded firmware, and checked the spring like you suggested. It was my fourth re-call, so I was just doing exploratory surgery. I took the tray A lift mechanism completely apart, trying to keep an eye open for something fishy. As I'm examining the tray A lift drive assembly I noticed that even after the drive assembly was removed, tray A did not drop. Nothing should have been keeping it toward the top. The timing belts that lift the tray up/down seemed too tight to me, so I loosened the lock down screw, let the spring tension the belt, then locked it back down. The tray immediately dropped to the bottom of the track. I did the same thing with the front belt. There have been no re-occurrences since. Release tray A lift belt tension lock screws. Allow spring to tension front and rear lift belt. Re-tighten belt tension lock screws. =^..^= =^..^=

I was looking at it, I don't see any adjustment to the cogged belts that move the tray on front and back. That the belt your talking about ? Ok I found what you were talking about. Its on the very bottom pulley.I'll try that and see what happens. Thanks for suggestion, at this point willing try about anything. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Craig K.,

The spring and lock down screw are below the bottom pulley. =^..^= =^..^=

Tried the tension thing and still same thing. Have tried main board, even switched out middle conveying unit, all sensors on backside keeping track of tray, sensor for tray arms that hold paper down. Getting ready try the tray motor, it mentions it in service manual. I doubt will help but running out things to try. Also did timing again just to make sure. Still no change, random 8140 code when using tray A.

Ok finally fixed this thing. What was happening and I don't really know why. Was the middle arm on the part that comes out and pats the paper down after it exits. It was rubbing on the exit shaft above it, which was causing it to stick. So it was tripping the sensor that watches the paper height.Sending it down when it wasn't supposed to.I finally figured it out when it worked flawlessly when stapling, and difference is arms not come out when stapling.I ended up sanding top of middle one down a little so it wouldn't catch any more.Nothing seemed bent or out place was simplest solution I could come up with.
