Machine had only 11k on it & is very often jamming with j41 & j81 codes. The paper accordian jams in the fuser in a position almost impossible to remove. For the j81 it actually stops just as it reaches the foam exit rollers in the js unit. this machine is already on it's 2nd fuser unit and we replaced turnover roller/exit unit as per tech support. still a no go. Firmware is the latest. customer wants to chuck the machine.

Go to the 400ci service manual and adjust the finisher alignment. It is in the finisher setup guide. That will resolve the J-81

I checked the alignment it is correct. As to that correcting the problem my question is, the paper jams before it even exits the machine, just as it reaches the exit rollers in the js unit.

Couple of questions? Are you duplexing when this problem occurs? I just had one jamming since new and I ended up replacing the photo sensor above the switches. The one with the green levers you pull foward around registration. There are some other jamming issues with these machines. One of them is there should be a spacer applied to the fuser drive assembly, the other in the duplex there is a modification to the switch inside the left door. You have to take the thing off in your lap and allow for the cutout on the left hand side to be a little larger so the switch floats freely back.

Techboy, Thanks for your reply. The jamming occurs on single sided prints. KMA has no updates regarding the two mods you mention. where exactly does the spacer go in the fuser, and for the duplex, heard about wrapping the spring another turn, but it seems to me just another approach to combat the problem.

OK, machine fixed. Here is a full report. First of all before I had a chance to go back, the customer called that the machine was smoking. When I returned I found paper under the pressure belt and thermostat. Replaced the fuser unit, removed the JS unit cleaned the gate solenoid and made sure rollers n switches were ok. So far so good.

Hi YakYitz
Did you ever solve your J81 issues?
I have a new machine as well that is less than 3
months old and my J81 count is 83. Yes that much.

I would be happy to get a fix on this issue. In my case the paer is single sided copy and jams well before exiting into the simple 1000 sheet finisher. I checked the machine and floor with a level and there is very little difference.

Thanks
Ed

Read the criteria for J81 it's for 3k finisher only. Check to see if it's application related
