Hello All I am looking for input from others who have had issues with charge rollers on the drum units. Has there been a reason to change them out on the black drum units on low volume machines? It was suggested as a possible cause of my problem with grey banding lead to trail on copies. The symptom seems to come and go. Firmware is up to date and drum and developer units cleaned of toner dusting. Any input appreciated. Thanks Ed
It's usually the black charge units that I hve to change, but not exclusively.
Run some U089, Gray, 11x17 prints to identify the pattern repeating at 38mm. If you catch it early cleaning the charge roller with water or glass cleaner can help. Just like a corona wire problem, on long runs the background gets cumulatively worse. You'll also see dirty voids and leading edges. Some just are beyond cleaning though. For those I stock a few new charge assys. =^..^=

Followup The marks have come back so the next step will be trying transfer unit and transfer roller as a possible solution and advise the results. Thanks for all the views.Feel free to reply with oter suggestions. Thanks Ed
If it has the original Transfer belt assembly in it, depending on how old it is, they have made changes to the cleaning section. If these marks from lead to trail are only one color it will be a muddy looking greeninsh brown, the color that ends up in the waste toner bottle, this would indicate a transfer belt cleaning issue. If it's a black, cyan, magenta or yellow streaking then you have issues with the drum unit. There have been changes made to the drum unit cleaning section also. The toner evacuation auger has been changed to move toner away quicker. Apparently it would back up in the cleaning area and either cause the drum blade to fail periodically or even break the toner evacutaion auger. The newer style drums have a two sets of flights on the auger, the inner one is slightly smaller than the outer one.
we have had a transfer roller cause that in one situation.. was banding cyan though, simailar problem. didn't make total sense, but cleaned it right up. has worked great ever since.
